| Yorkie Spleen Tumor I wanted to ask if anyone's had their precious yorkies diagnosed with a tumor of the spleen and their experiences. The vet says he has never seen this before but we've taken ultrasounds and xrays. He sees no other masses but mentioned her spleen is 3-4x what it should be and there is a mass we are absolutely devastated.

| I’ve never had a yorkie with a spleen tumor, but I know they’re fairly common among larger dogs, especially older ones. Unfortunately, because the spleen is so deep in the body, a tumor of the spleen often isn’t diagnosed until it ruptures, causing a medical (ie internal bleeding) emergency. If found before it ruptures, I think the only possible treatment is surgery to have it removed, asap, before it ruptures. Then, of course, a biopsy is done to determine whether the tumor is malignant. Not all spleen tumors are malignant. I’m sorry you’re going through this, but don’t delay in getting the necessary surgery. Good luck and keep us advised. |
