| Marking Hello! So Flint loves marking. He is marking everything in the backyard and is also marking over where my other dog pees as well. He is grass pad trained inside and goes outside as well. He is preferring outside, which is great. The issue is that I found a marked area at the corner of one of the dog beds in the house. Any hints on helping to make sure this doesn't get worse inside the house? I watch him but I think he did it when I was showering. (Hubby was in living room with him)

| If you have not already neutered him , do it ASAP before it becomes an indoor habit. If you neuter at a young age, this may help with indoor marking. I rescued my guy when he was 2 1/2 years old. The prev. owner turned in all his medical papers, my fellow was neutered at 8 mos old. He squats when he pees but will hike his leg outdoors sometimes. He is 100 % outdoor trained, no pee pads used. Peeing on top of your other dogs pee is ok, he is re-claiming his territory. I had two females now both passed, the younger one would do that with the older gal. Check with your vet on what age can he be neutered. Neutering also eliminates chance of getting testicular cancer, it may add years to his life, also reduces testosterone issues like dominance and aggression.

| While doing anything that has been suggested, I would put a belly band on him. I have a male who won't stop and I have done everything imaginable to stop him.....I finally gave up and he wears belly bands. Probably will forever.

| My husband doesn't want to neuter him. He just sees an innocent little guy who he is afraid will break his spirit. I still went ahead and scheduled his surgery in may.. now I just gotta get my husband on board

I had a foster years ago with a perineal hernia which is a risk of not neutering male dogs.....it was a MESS and after 3 surgeries (by a specialist) failed he ended up having to be euthanized. He was a senior and had other issues BUT having to put him through those surgeries made me sick to my stomach. There was no choice as his bladder was getting trapped in it...it was awful. Testicular tumors are a common problem in older intact dogs. The health repercussions of not neutering male dogs or not spaying female dogs often show up later. Bottom line, many of these can be prevented. I hope your husband takes it serious and changes his mind. Neutering him will not change him!!! He will still be your spunky adorable yorkie boy!! https://www.pethealthnetwork.com/dog...euter-your-pet https://www.vetinfo.com/perineal-hernia-in-dogs.html https://bluepearlvet.com/medical-art...umors-in-dogs/

| Neutering will not break Flints spirit, he will be the same lil mischievous boy he is now. When I got my first girl she was a wee lil thing, the thought of cutting her open to spay her, I just could not do it. Three years later I bought my second wee lil girl, again, I could not bring myself to do it Three years later I got my 3rd wee lil girl, I forced myself to have her spayed. My first girl was 14 years old when she got Pyometra, a deadly uterus infection, long story short she died 9 days after surgery, 6 months later my 2nd un-spayed girl got Pyometra, I knew the signs and rushed her for emergency surgery, she live for 6 months after surgery. The point I am trying to make is, I know how hard it is to have a wee lil baby and to have to make a decision to alter the wee little baby. We have to make tough decisions for our fur babies. Neutering is a life saving surgery. An intact male will be an aggressive, dominating male. A intact male can smell a female in heat a mile away, you chance your intact male bolting out a door or yard to get to that female, you chance your dog running away and never getting him back, getting attack by another intact dog. I could go on and out of all the pitfalls of having an intact male. You have made the right choice to get him neutered, health wise it could be a life saver down the road. Have your hubby read articles on pros and cons of having an intact dog, hopefully he will see why neutering is so very important to do. And his personality will not be affected. Do read the links ladyjane posted, very good information.

| Thanks everyone. I definitely don't need convincing. Flint has his surgery scheduled and I spoke with my sister in law who was a vet tech for many years. I was able to tell my husband her views as well. Mostly letting him know that she too says it won't break his spirit and their dog didnt change either after his neuter. May 12th.....

| I know you didn't need the convincing, it is the hubby. I hope he is more comfortable with it after you spoke to your SIL. How is Flint doing with food, still picky about it, or did you find something he likes.

| I hate to be a downer but once he starts its very hard if not impossible to stop. I waited until 8 months on Ollie's neutering because I wanted to finish puppy classes first and worst mistake ever he started marking and even neutering didn't do anything. I send him out for a lot of potty breaks, I clean things a lot even the bigger toys, and I limit where he can go without being watched. He has a huge prey drive and if we have a mouse he marks worse. His older brother doesn't mark inside except occasionally where Ollie goes if you don't tell him no when he finds it however Joey does tell you places Ollie has gone so I know where to clean lol.

Unfortunately the hubby still isnt on board and says it isn't happening. I say it is and I am going to make sure it happens. I just hope Flint doesn't get worse with the indoor marking before I can get him into surgery. I am watching him like a hawk and getting stricter with all he does. He knows im watching him too. (Haha smart turd.) When I take him out, he has to get into a sit until i open the door. im now keeping him on his leash as well, so that when I say its time to come back in and come to me, he has to do it. (He stopped coming when called when outside, so this may help with that.) When I go shower, I am now bringing him in there with me and keeping him busy in his little crate with a bully stick. (Bonus to that is crate training!) He does ask to go outside A LOT though. I think partially out of boredom. I work from home but I can't entertain the little guy all the time. Lol. He seems to get bored insanely fast. As for his pickiness at meal time. He is still the same. I ended up with him on Instinct be naturals puppy. I offer morning, leave it for a couple hours and noon, leaving it for a couple hours as well. He turns his nose up at it each time. I offer dinner around 5 but he wont touch it until after 7pm or so. Then he will eat some. I no longer put topper on it or do anything special with it because then he will eat what I do special and leave the kibble. It's worrisome but as long as he is eating the minimum serving size for his age and weight, im letting him do his thing for now.
