If you have not already, you need to have him speak with your vet OR read information on intact dogs. The worst culprit in my home, Baxter, came to me as an adult. He had been allowed to run around his neighborhood and chased chickens and mated with a female that belonged to a neighbor. He has a very high prey drive and has killed lizards and baby birds in my yard and he marks like crazy even though there is no scent because he wears a belly band. I have tried to stop him....he is an adorable boy who will come to me when called and is the sweetest. The marking is a pain! I hate putting the belly bands on him but it is that or live with urine everywhere.
I had a foster years ago with a perineal hernia which is a risk of not neutering male dogs.....it was a MESS and after 3 surgeries (by a specialist) failed he ended up having to be euthanized. He was a senior and had other issues BUT having to put him through those surgeries made me sick to my stomach. There was no choice as his bladder was getting trapped in it...it was awful.
Testicular tumors are a common problem in older intact dogs.
The health repercussions of not neutering male dogs or not spaying female dogs often show up later. Bottom line, many of these can be prevented. I hope your husband takes it serious and changes his mind. Neutering him will not change him!!! He will still be your spunky adorable yorkie boy!!
