| Separation anxiety???? Lily stays in her crate while I am at work. I come home and let her out to potty at lunch and I immediately come home after work. When I get her out, she is usually wet around her mouth. It doesn't happen every day, but most. I am thinking she may be panting, but I have never seen her pant. Could this be a symptom of separation anxiety? She doesn't seem overly obsessive of me or my husband, and will gladly play in another room away from us with the cat. She loves everybody and everything she meets and doesn't seem to cling to any certain person. She is 16 weeks old. Anyone have an answer? |

| I quess it could be. The only time my Jewels pants is when shes in the car she starts panting right before she gets sick. I would just keep an eye on her.

| Do you think it is water..does she play in the water bowl? or is it slobbers?? Is her face hairs stiff..? If it is water the face hair will not feel stiff. (once dry) If it is drool the the face hairs are stiffer feeling. (once dry) Are you feeding wet food? This will also cause the stiffer feel. I would watch her.. If it is not from panting, water or food.. then I'd be concerned something else is going on. They can slobber or drool when upset or if they play to hard. But, I would watch her..NOT TRYING TO SCARE YOU..A dog I had.. Would slobber or drool when he had seizures and his face hairs would be stiff. If you notice anything... Starring off into space, shaking, walking funny, spaced out..etc Then take her to the Vets ASAP and get her check out. Sherry |

| YORKIEGIRL2 - she doesn't have water in her crate. The hair is still very wet when I get home and it dries stiff. She only eats Eukanuba dry puppy food. BUT...we had an episode a couple of weeks ago where she acted very lethargic and her head was bobbing. She fell over a couple of times so we took her to the Vet ER and she acted perfect. They suggested it could have been low sugar. I was only feeding her once a day (due to some bad advice) and so I stopped that. She has been perfect since. She NEVER has wet hair around her mouth when we are home and I would think that if she is having seizures, they wouldn't happen only when she is in her crate. I am clueless!!! |

| My Ranger has seperation anxiety but only "foams at the mouth" as we call it when put in his crate. (it's not quite foam but it's enough slobber to make bubbles and look awful ) When he knows we're about to leave in the morning he starts shaking pretty bad and won't come near us. He's terrified of the crate for some reason so we never put him in it unless absolutely necessary. Is yours afraid of the crate or doesn't like it?

| She isn't afraid of it, but she doesn't want to be in there. She has a blanket in there and I always put a couple of her toys in with her too. As soon as she gets out, she drags her blanket and toys out. I think she believes that if there is nothing in her crate, she doesn't have to go back in there! It's really quite funny. If I put a treat in there, she won't eat it. |

| Stress can bring on seizures...there is a website I use for information when dealing with the dog I had.. www.canine-epilepsy-guardian-angels.com After you read the info you will know things to watch for... if she starts having anything like this I would have her checked out ASAP. If it is stress from being crated and causing sugar problems.. I would get an XPen with a peice of Linoleum or Vinyl under it. or a room without carpet and use a baby gate. Put the crate in the area with door off for the pup to sleep in, food, water, toys and pee pads at the other end. I always made sure my pups take a naps, after hard play or up to long. The little squirts don't want to but they need it. And get some nutri-cal..If she is not eating right, get sick or has a spell. (this will bring the sugar levels back up.) What dog food are you feeding her? Some dogs can have an allergic reactions sometimes to certain foods. Seek VETS advise..if at anytime you are not certain what is going on.. Keep us posted...Sherry |

| Thank you for the website, I will definitely check it out. She eats Eukanuba Dry Puppy Food, and seems to be eating ok. |

You might try a wet food too. All my pups get both. Dry stays out all day and when very young I feed 2 small meals of wet. MY oldest is now 5 months.. she and the other dogs get one wet meal a day. Last night they had Chicken, rice and carrots... They are so funny.. when they hear me get the plates..they know it's food time and will start raising heck.. | |

| I've not tried wet food yet, and I really don't want to. I have a cat too, and she is already very interested in the dry puppy food. I'm sure that the wet food will smell even better to her! I have an appt at the vet this afternoon, so hopefully we can get to the bottom of this! |

| Hey Sherry - thanks for all of the advice yesterday! I took Lily to the vet and he really has no idea what's going on with her. He suggested putting some water in her crate with her, that she may be panting because she is thirsty??? We will see. I'm not so sure that my cat doesn't sit outside her crate and taunt her all day. I can just see Lily barking and crying to the top of her lungs trying to get out and play. Anyway, if it keeps up, we are going to set up a camera. The crazy things we do for our kids!!! |
