| Senior dog and excessive barking It's been a long time since I've been on our forum. Khloe will be 9 years old next week. Khloe continuously barks when anyone comes to my house. She will not stop until the person leaves. Does anyone else have this issue? |

YT 2000 Club Member | Barking My two yorkies bark when someone comes over. Then they settle down. Yorkies are very protective. I wish I knew what you can do to stop that barking. They are smart dogs. They know when you are not happy. Some people use a squirt bottle of water but my yorkies still bark. |

| The squirt bottle works. Did it to Gidget several times. She soon realized what was going to happen when I picked it up. She immediately stopped barking. |

| Any time they are quiet and relaxed i drop a treat on the ground and say quiet and walk away. I''ll make loud noises and if she barks i'll ignore her, when she doesnt bark i'll give her treats. I've noticed attention is her biggest addiction. If she is ignored it hurts a lot more than screaming and giving negative attention. Now when she has to get out of the crate to go potty she chirps and huffs and puffs. |

| When she won't stop barking (teach her a word, such as "stop" or "hush") . I would pick her up and put her in a room by herself for a few minutes. Then, bring her out and if she starts barking, say "stop" or "hush" and put her back in the room alone. She should quickly get the message that if she wants to be in the room with everyone she should not bark incessantly. I find the squirt bottle to be a short lived thing and all they do is duck when they see it. I don't feel like keeping a squirt bottle on hand, would rather try to change the behavior.
