He’s between eight and nine months old, and he’s never had an attack of hypoglycemia. Which is one reason I was surprised by the instruction to give him a meal on the morning of the surgery. I mean, I could see it if he had a history of hypoglycemia, but since he hasn’t, I’d think the anesthesia risk of having food in his stomach would be greater.

I do have some puppy nutrical on hand, so I could give him some of that on the morning of the surgery instead of or in addition to the peanut butter. I’m not really inclined to force feed water; that could be dangerous, especially with a wiggly pup like Jax.

No, I wouldn't think hydration would be a problem but you said nurse said he should have food and drink. You must use your own judgment with your baby at all times. It's a common procedure he's going to be having and done on so many toy dogs 4 lb. and even less every single day very successfully. Try your best not to worry unduly. Before you know it, you'll be picking him up, bringing him home. My Tibbe usually whined a good deal the night of his neuter and after each yearly dental cleaning anesthesia as he was still feeling wonky. I hated that but they assured me some dogs just do that and he was settled so not acting like he was in pain or anything. Next morning all better!

Maybe you could also write everything down for them to give to the vet. I understand your frustrations, I really need to talk to my vet about a certain issue and I can’t. I just keep hoping and praying things start going back to normal. I can’t send Ollie in by himself due to his issues and they don’t take into consideration for dogs that can’t due that.

Yes you definitely could do that. I keep some of the adult version of the nutrical that I give the boys when they decide not to eat or act weird.
