| Who’s dealing with Pancreatitis? Just wonder if anyone else is dealing with pancreatitis? Interested in what feed you feed. I been dealing with it over 2 years now and it’s scarey when an attack comes on. |

| My Thumper was diagnosed with it in late January. Up until early April it was a trying time. He only had to be hospitalized once but we were at the Vets almost every week. Thumper has Cushing's Disease and very early stages Kidney. The only thing I feed him is his food (Hill's Science K/D Diet). I give no treats. I tried switching him to Just Food For Dogs but he had a really bad transition and I went back to his old food. To keep things easy I also put his sister Bella on the same food. I am very stringent on no table scraps. He will get something once in a very blue moon but for the most part he is on a very strict diet.

| Pancreatitis is very scary. Jackson had a bad attack in Sept 2018 at almost 10 years old. He was able to get sub-q fluids, Cerenia (anti nausea) and Metronidazole. He was back to normal within 4 days. But he had LOTS of vomiting, turned into firehose diarrhea. Low fat is VERY important for these dogs.... not only that, but DRY MATTER BASIS... if you are feeding a canned food you must convert to DMB to get the accurate fat %. They have calculators for this, such as: https://www.pawdiet.com/articles/dry...-for-pet-food/ But then we struggled with further problems, diarrhea for over 2 months - suspected IBD is possible and this is fairly common with pancreatitis dogs, I have read. Things I always keep on hand- Cerenia Pepcid A/C Metronidazole Tylan powder GastroElm We don't have to use it every day but it's nice to have around for when needed... We currently feed Royal Canin PW Moderate Calorie kibble - it's a potato/whitefish kibble low in fat (7.5% fat) and Weruva canned food (Cirque de le Mer - it's a tuna flavor, and under 10% fat on a dry matter basis... their website actually lists this fat % in DMB for you which is nice).... other good options for pancreatitis - Royal Canin Gastro Low Fat - Royal Canin Vegetarian - Purina HA (if they need hydrolyzed) - Purina E/N low fat There are some commercial diets that a lot of pancreatitis dogs do OK on, but you want to ensure when you email them and question that they can give you a MAXIMUM fat % as well as the dry matter basis... Some people like Dr. Harvey's where you can mix in your own proteins, or The Honest Kitchen (1 of their fish formulas and beef formula are low in fat)...

| My boy has been on RC RX kibble for over 2 years. I rotate Sm amount of boiled chicken, low fat boiled ground beef, veggies in his kibble. He still has had a couple bouts a year. I’ve thought about changing him but not sure anything else would do him any better. |

I have some experience as my dog had suffered a Lymphangiectasia which has similar symptoms. My dog was often prescribed Prednisone(steroid) whenever she had an attack. Vet has put her on Royal Canine Prescription food for Gastrointestinal.(you can only get this from Vet's office). I was able to control her symptoms by giving the dog no-meat treats. ie apples, carrots, lettuce(my dog's favorite), bananas, sweet potatoes, etc. I also gave her Coconut oil. I think the symptoms are well managed by diet. | |

| Yes, my little Button was hospitalised with it a few years ago. He was very ill. Afterwards he was on Royal Canine Prescription food for Gastrointestinal from the vet for the rest of his life. He died last year but from cancer not the pancreatitis. |
