To much in one day?

The things we do for a good groomer lol. Well my groomer is from a local owned grooming shop. They have a mobile van. Well she was doing the mobile grooming for us well over 5 years ago when it was Just Callie and my moms rescue Sammy. Sammy hated grooming but loved our groomer Erica so it helped me know she was a great person. She was the first and only person to groom Penny, Joey and Ollie. Well last year she got tired of the mobile van breaking down so she refused to use it and only groom at the shop. Well it takes a bit over an hour for each pup normally a little longer with the girls and I refuse to leave all of them there for 5 or 6 hours. So we take two in and come back about 2 and a half hours later and pick those 2 up and leave the other 2. The issue with this is my house is 25 to 30 minutes away so it’s drive 2 to the shop, come home get the other 2 and take them to the shop switch them out and bring the first 2 home and drop them off and go back and get the other 2. It’s a lot lol. Would it be to much in one day to take all 4 but just drop 2 off and stay in town going to the park or the store with the other 2 and switch them out and do the same with the first 2? They seem tired after getting groomed and I don’t want to overwhelm them. Callie might be a bit more sore or tired because of her legs but I can take her stroller. How do you know what is to much for them in one day? Opinions?

I know what would be to much for me lol. My groomer is 30 minute drive from my house, It takes 1 1/2 hours for grooming. If I had 4 dogs I would not be traveling back and fourth. I would take 4, drop 2 off, spend the time in town with the other two and swap when the first two are finished. Like you say, you have the stroller for Callie. It would be nice for the dogs to socialize with ppl or just walk them and let them enjoy sniffing everything in their path while you're waiting for the other two. Give that a try a few times and see how that works out for you and the pups.

I can't give you any advice, but it sounds exhausting for all of you! I groom all three of mine (although Tyrone only gets sanitary trims and around his eyes). My other two cooperate well, but I spread their time on the table over a few days in one hour stretches. They look truly goofy for the two or three days that they are "partially" cut, but they tolerate staying still much better when I break it up. I generally do their heads, face and ears first, then torso, and finally legs.

I tried grooming them but I just was not good at it and it’s is pretty hard. I think if I could sign up for a physical hands on class I could learn it much better. I have all the stuff. Right now I just pluck ears and do sanitary trims and baths between going to the groomer. They are all very good about it though.

I honestly can't imagine how you manage with getting 4 to the groomer in one day!!! I groom Mike at home and even stretch it over two days sometimes You could maybe split them and bring them to the groomer on two different days? Might take the pressure off.

We have done that before but with my depression an anxiety some times two days in a row is really hard. It just depends but I know what your saying. If I didn’t have my moms help I would have to do it that way for sure.

Hi I have a suggestion but you may not want to do. I think change is always good in life and think positive thoughts. What I suggest is, if you could find another groomer nearby and coordinate it such that you could drop off 2 dogs at one location and drop off the other 2 dogs at the 2nd location, i.e. within 30 minutes drive. You would benefit greatly and it may not be so exhausting for you.

You have to think that what if your regular groomer one day may have to move away or retire or if her situation changes and she can't groom anymore. Then what would you do? You would have to find another groomer right.

I know it's hard to find a good groomer but maybe if you search around you might find someone equally as good. Just my thoughts and two cents worth. Good Luck!

Callie in her 13 years has been to every groomer in the area no joke. 30 minutes is actually the closest one to me. With all the dogs being killed at groomers I take it very very seriously and I won’t leave my dog with some one I don’t trust. I also due to all the deaths and the fact that they use cage dryers will not use Petco or Petsmart. I’m not near a big city per say so the choices are not unlimited. My groomer was going to move very far away and then when she started grooming back at the shop and realized how much she loved it she decided to stay. If she leaves I will probably look at one of the mobile groomers either from that shop or one of the other mobile services. I definitely don’t want to use 2 different groomers though.

Best Answer Here. That is, if you want them all done on the same day and do not want to leave them all at Groomers or drive them back and forth. But this advise is really great since you have had trouble keeping good Groomers.



Why again, do you not want to leave the 4 together at the Groomer? If I did not trust a Groomer to 'keep' my dogs a few hours, I sure would not want them to use drench my dogs in water and sharp items on my dogs.

I trust her extremely well! It takes 2 and a half hours to groom 2 dogs so by taking all 4 they would be there for at least 5 hours and that is just way to long. Joey has separation anxiety from leaving his mom to early and having had 2 homes before 9 weeks old. He deals but 5 hours would just be to much for him. Ollie is very timid and shy because he stayed with a bad breeder to long and was not exposed to things until almost 6 months old so again it’s just to long. My girls would be fine because Callie has had to stay overnight at the orthopedic surgeon 3 different times and is very easy going and Penny is very easy going. It’s just to long anyway.

Guys I’m ok with my groomer and how I do it I just wanted to know if being groomed and going to the pet store or park would be to much in one day so I’m not constantly driving back and forth.

Cody is like a wild man when he's finished with the groomer, as a special treat for him I'll take him to a dog friendly store where he gets a lot of attention, it's kinda like a reward on grooming day. I don't think it would be to much for the pups to go to a park or pet store, these are fun things for the dogs. You know how they like to sniff everything and places they don't go to on a regular basis will be enjoyable to them.

I didn’t get to do it this time (today) but I am going to next time. It was cold and very rainy today. I’m also thinking in spring walking or in Callie’s case strolling around the park might be nice too. They have a paved circle that is about a half mile if you walk the whole thing. Lots to smell in the half mile too. Back when Callie was very young probably a year old we went walking around it and I thought Callie picked up a little stick and was cute walking with it and well it wasn’t a stick but a dried up crusty poo .

I'm so lucky. Gidget's groomer is only 5 miles away. My other groomer moved about 15 miles away to go in with another groomer. She was okay but not the greatest but she was only 1/2 mile away. When she moved, I found her new groomer and she's great. I refuse to take Gidget to a store for grooming. The groomers there have no vested interest in doing a good job. They get paid by the hour whether they do a good job or not. There's always another pet owner waiting in line. An independent groomer is building a business and her best job means a recommendation to another pet owner.
