| Is the dog flu still as big an issue as it was? I really haven't heard much about it lately and the pups are due for their dog flu vaccine around the 8th of February so just trying to see if this is still necessary or not. I love taking my pups places even when there is four of them so I like them to be covered for stuff especially because with Callie's cushings her immune system is significantly compromised so if she ended up getting something like that it could turn bad very fast. So just looking for opinions or what people have been hearing. Ollie has not yet been vaccinated for it because after his puppy shots I wanted his little immune system to have a little break so if I update the others then he will be getting it also.

| Last July when Cody went for his vaccines I asked my vet about vaccine shots for H3N8 and H3N2 flu because I saw it was now in Pa. My vet told me she has not treated any dogs for the flu in the area , no need for vaccine. She said if cases should show up all clients would be notified to bring their pets in for the vaccine. Your vet would be the best person to ask, they will know if the flu is in your area.

| I seem to notice that the dog flu, unlike the human strain, seems to spike in the summer, and wane in the winter. It's odd, because most flu viruses do not survive in the heat, but flourish in the cold. I am not thrilled about giving Cody too many vaccines, because he is quite small, and delicate. So, I only try to give him what is really required like Rabies, Distemper, etc. As long as there have been no reports about outbreaks, and your dogs are not coming into contact with many others at one time, like at a dog park/run, doggie day care, etc., I am not sure you do not need to worry about it. | It’s hard because most of the pet events I go to are not in my immediate area.

| Talked to the vet and we decided to go ahead. Callie had a recheck for her skin today so we went ahead and got her dog flu booster today so that I only have to take the other 3 in and not 4 lol.

| Wise choice since you can't check the places you may be taking the pups to.

| Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | You know what a vaccine minimalist I am Taylor . But I had a convo a few mths back with the Vet at the shelter where I volunteer and he said it could be a very good idea to get the flu vaccine in areas where there could be a vulnerability bc if a dog does get this flu, it's usually quite serious. I haven't gotten it for my kiddos, but I may in the future.
