| Your Yorkie's Measurements Please!! Hello Everyone! I have a new yorkie puppy, she's about 3 months now. I live in Ukraine, where it's already starting to get chilly and winter will be here before we know it! I need to buy my pup a coat, but because she's just a baby I'm not sure what size to get. Ideally I'd like to buy something she'll grow into and will fit well throughout the winter, but I need to order something soon because it generally takes a really long time for items to be shipped to me here. SO I was wondering if you guys would be willing to share your dog's measurements so I can get an idea of what to buy? She's a standard, not a teacup or anything like that. According to growth charts online, she's on track to be a 7lb yorkie. So if you have an average 7lb yorkie, would you please let me know their measurements? When looking at clothing (especially coats,) what length usually works best for you? This would be a huge help!!! Please and thank you!! -- Leah |

| Hi there, My late sweetie weighed closer to 5-1/2 most of her adult life. She was a little smaller her first winter, at about 9 most old her first new years. She was a little heavier in the last year of her life--but the weight fluctuated as she declined. At least to the best of my recall, the coat I bought her first winter was usable for her second winter, but her third. In the last year of her life, I actually had to purchase two sized of the same coat--one when she was a little heavier and one for use when she was smaller. Sorry I can't be of more help. --KatysMom |

| You want to measure around the largest part of her chest (just behind front legs) and then from where her neck and shoulders meet back to where her tail starts. The most important is the chest measurement. It's really great that you're taking such great care of your new baby--and Yorkies are very susceptible to being cold! You might consider purchasing a couple of little, fleece baby blankets that she can snuggle in, too. During winter in southeastern Wisconsin, Piper wears a sweater even while inside. |

| You know how people who can be the same weight but different heights wear different sizes i would say the same applies with our pets . Emma is a standard yorkie and she’s about 7 pounds in the summer and she puts on her winter weight at about 8 pounds . She’s got a full coat so I buy a small/medium hoodie depending on length.

| Tibbe's 6.5 lbs. and 9 by 9. 9" tall at withers, 9" from withers to base of his wittle tail, all of it cute!

| Cody is so off size, when I have to buy coats, sweater t-shirts I take him with me and try them on him in the store. Keep in mind, your kido is just a baby, still growing, what you buy now may not fit her at the end of your winter. I had so many different size coats and things when my girls were growing.

| Just because another yorkie might be the same weight doesn’t mean they will have the same body type. Joey and Penny are just a few ounces different from each other and have complete opposite body types. I also know many Yorkies who end up not being the size that is estimated. Ollie was bigger then all his siblings and his parents at 6 months old.

| Bon Bon was on track to be a 5 pound yorkie and at one year old, tips the scales at 4.0 to 4.2 pounds. He's loaded with muscle (we walk a lot) so he looks smaller than he weighs out to be. That being said, his chest measures 12" around. He wears anything from S to XXS. It depends on who is making the clothing. His first winter in south central Wisconsin he wore cut up socks and sweatshirt sleeves, instead of actual dog clothing. He was too small and growing too fast. |
