Well, according to the Google search,
it's about 48%. Then u have to factor
that many are just mixed classified
as pit bulls.

I suppose by city it's varries too.
Still, around 50% is a lot!

They are "mixes" all right. PIT BULL MIXES. LOL

People go on and on about "over population" but the fact is these shelters, pounds, etc are mainly full of pitbulls and pitbull mixes and having had a pitbull before they are simply not for everyone. They have the capability of doing a lot of damage, they are extremely smart, determined, and tenacious for better or worse. Breeding is extremely important and you really need to know where these dogs came from, and temperament history before you bring them into your home, especially if you live with children and other animals or densely populated places.

Purebred yorkies end up homeless and in rescues every now and then but they are mostly surrendered from elderly/dead owners, people who cannot afford expensive medical conditions, puppy mill confiscations, etc. And when they are available they are snapped up right away if they are purebred and in good shape/well bred. All that has been left when I have looked are extremely elderly dogs, sick dogs, deformed dogs, and questionable mixes.

for everyone, I ask that you not be
So hard on them.

Almost any dog can cause harm.
I would trust a pit bull more than most.

But shelter dogs & pitbus tend to love
people more than most dogs.

There are instances where a house is
broken in. . . . and the pitbull is taken too.

Generally, that won't happen with a do this
or German shepherd. Bylut pits love people.

I advocate them as a good dog for kids.
But I also advocate not leaving them unsupervised.
Both dog & child need training.

It’s depends a lot about your area. I know many places that Yorkies are in kill shelters.

It takes a certain person to own a pit bull and they require training. They are not making a good name for them lately though with all the killings. Due to how they have been over bred and shouldn’t have been made in the first place they have a certain snap that can happen in their brain. People who break into houses will take any dog at this point.

Very rarely does anyone say after one has attacked and killed that they thought that would happen. They have something that snaps in their brain.

Of course, many places do not have no-kill shelters but the fact is, they are more likely to be adopted . i went to my local Animal shelter's website and there was 5 pages of eligible dogs for adoption, i counted 18 dogs before I got to a non pit bull. I would say 95% of the dogs available are pit bulls or pitbull type dogs. And then there are the "boxer mixes" which are probably pitbull mixes. No one is dna testing these dogs so they are basically guessing.

What set them off was a tree cutter in a tree a few yards over. One of the dogs was barking because he was a stranger and then the other dog started barking and the dog just snapped and went after the other dog because he could not get to the tree cutter. It was brutal, bloody, and savage and after they were literally beaten apart, they were wagging tails like it never happened. I just imagine what it be like if a child, a human being was on the receiving end of that or a little yorkie.....

I get the pit bull thing completely. I think sometimes something just snaps in them. I have issues with a different breed more then pits but I don't necessarily trust either one. I think they have to be trained and significant considerations need to be take. They need to stop being over bred too. I know several people who have pits because they are considered controversial and only for that reason and never train them and are an issue waiting to happen.
