| I need a yorkie whisperer expert Agghhh! Molly is driving us nuts! She is now 7 1/2 mo old. Potty training was better when she was 3 months old than now. For all you yorkie whisperers out there help us! When I'm gone I leave all 4 dogs in the entry way/kitchen area. Its probably 500 sq feet or bigger. So not like a kennel at all. If I'm gone for 6 hours she holds it but when we get home its a dash to run outside. She runs out and pees if we've been gone. Now for the problem! I know they are difficult to train..so all you out there wanting a yorkie and not believing this..they are difficult to train! Plan on replacing carpet! We have all hardwoods thruout the house but still a pain. I work from home and she sits on the deck most of the day...comes in to pee on the floor inside! Will only poop on hard surfaces...so the deck and my living room are the places that happens. I know everyone said take them for a walk..they get used to the idea that's when to go but its snowy here all winter and she hates her feet to get wet. PLus all 4 run and play all day out in the fenced yard so she doesn't need the exercise. We haven't found a harness yet that will hold her either. She jumps up twists around until it pops off then away she goes. Shes a runner and I'm tired of chasing her thru neighborhoods to get her. Luckily the last time she was afraid of the fire hydrant and stopped to bark at it. Grabbed her and that was her last walk. Since she goes out when I've been gone I know she A. Can hold it long periods B. Knows she suppose to go outside to pee Just can't figure out why when I'm home its a peeathon in the house?? |

| I pulled up the pee pads like everyone said because it was confusing her..so now she just pees on the floor. |

Harness. Believe the key here is to find a harness that fits snuggly. I did not order a harness for little Dutch prior to arrival, but we stopped at the pet store on our way back from the airport for that purpose. I bought a XXS harness that has both velcro and clasp closures on the top. She's gained give or take a pound, but is still not large enough to fit in the harness using the clasp closures. I am able to rig the velcro so that the harness is snug enough to make it hard for her to wiggle a leg out, much less two legs. She doesn't have her walking papers yet from the vet (six more days), but has to wear the harness in the stroller (with leash attached) and in the car seat (hooked to the seat safety device). Pee-pee. My experience has been different than yours. My late sweetie and current pup were/are being pee-pad trained. In my case, the pee pads weren't confusing to the little ones. (I just had to remember to give positive reinforcement.) It sounds as though the other three animals don't use pee-pads. If that is the case, I agree it would be difficult to train "one" pup to behave differently than the rest of the pack. Have you tried using an oversized artificial grass with tray on the deck? See the article on YorkieInfoCenter, "House Training a Yorkie." One of the points the author makes is that dogs sniff around and find what they call, "just the right spot." Little Dutch hasn't been introduced to the artificial grass and tray that I keep on our patio, but my late sweetie too to using it like a duck takes to water. Hope the article gives you some ideas. --KatysMom | |

| Piper did something similar; I'd take her to yard and wait and wait and nothin' then bring her inside and within 5-10 mins...dang! Discovering how food motivated Pipe is---and discovering her ultimate, favorite treat (a bite of plain, canned chicken breast) worked wonders! I mean it, "suddenly" she got it...(for the most part). |

| These little ones can be SO stubborn. They want to be the alpha at all times. Sometimes patience and time are the only answers. |

| Biggest thing here is don’t let them go outside by themselves they are to small. Revert back to beginning training take her out every hour and keep her in a pen when you can’t watch her fully. I personally had an easier time training the boys then the girls lol. Have you tried a buddy belt?

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Have you tried the tethering method for the inside peeing issue? Taylor is above brings up a very important point. Do you have prey birds where you are? If so, they can pick up a dog of up to 13 pounds.

| Crate training. It's unusual for them to pee in their "den". Just don't leave your little one in too long at one time. Good Luck! |

| Are you cleaning the area with dog specific cleaners. I know with my yorkie (Brooks) he was pee pad trained and all of a sudden started peeing all over the floor. I figured out that I was not using dog specific cleaners and he was smelling where he peed before. And since dogs like to pee in the same spot he kept peeing until I mopped the floor with the dog specific cleaner. Also if she ever pees outside give her a lot of hugs and treats which will teach her what she just did will earn hugs and treats. That is how I got Brooks to be potty trained so fast. |

| May need to be crated for a spell until she knows that outside is where she needs to go. My girl was/ is still stubborn, a real priss about wet grass and will come in the house to go if I let her. She would even go in her crate for a while which was NOT FUN. Had to purchase a drip grate for the crate floor! (they cost more than the crate) But after awhile it clicked and I have not had any accidents in months. If She is the problem child position her in the crate right near the door so you can take her out immediately when you get home. |

| What brand do you use? We've tried most of the dog urine cleaners and Fabian will continue to go back to the same spot again and again. He's also the exception to "won't pee in their den" rule. We had to go back to tethering and going out every hour, after getting cleared by the vet of any urinary issues. |
