| Potty training advice? I have an 8month puppy who was very well pee pad trained and I am trying to get him to stop peeing in the house. Right now he is supervised at all times, given potty breaks, crated when unsupervised, and praised when he goes outside, but he will still squats and pee anywhere in the house and seems to not have any problem with it. Am I doing something wrong or just being impatient? Is there anything else I could be doing to get him trained? |

I'd allow him a bit of roaming time right after you see that he's relieved himself. But then, keep him contained again within 30 minutes to an hour until his next potty break. Do this for a period of time. Then slowly give him longer free-roaming time. And by free-roaming time, I mean not the entire house...but say from the play pen, to just one room, to that room plus the adjacent room, and so on. Puppies need to 'earn' access to the space in your home. If they have an accident, go back one step and restrict the areas he's allowed to go to. And, definitely at this time, don't let him go to places with mats or carpets. That's just asking for trouble. Oh and has he been neutered yet? If not, you should asap. I only say that because you mentioned that he's still squatting! I brought Scottie home at 5 months, and I had only seen him squat a handful of times before he started hiking up his leg. The squatting was so cute...
