| Being picked up and held wrong So Callie is bigger at 17 pounds so I never had the issue of people picking her up. With Joey who is 10 pounds he is often in my arms or right against me so no one really picks him up. Well Penny is 12 pounds and extremely happy to see people and almost jumps in their arms but the only one who has tried to pick her up was a kid at a dog event. Two people picked her up yesterday at the vet one was a receptionist and the other a tech we know pretty well and neither supported her butt they were like holding her around her chest and I was terrified they were going to drop her because she is a big kisser and wiggle worm when excited. How the heck do you work at a vets office and not know how to pick up a dog . My mom was with me and we had all three, well I hooked Callie and Penny’s leashes to the hook they have by the counter and was holding Joey because he just got a shot and wanted to be held while I was paying and signing and make the booster shot appointment and the tech who picked Penny up came over and unhooked the girls and took them for a potty break. I don’t know whether to be thankful or concerned she didn’t ask. I worked with this one tech when I did my shadowing and she knows us from being at the vet all the time but still. This was the first time at my vets office I was like wth. Maybe I’m weird I just like them in my sight and not being picked up. I fear them being dropped. I finally get the whole concern over people picking them up thing.

| I feel the same way like you. I have read about people dropping a wiggly puppy and I would freak out if that happened to my Kinder. Another thing that irks me is when you go to the vet and they walk my kid out where all the sick drooling dogs have been. Our last yorkie had genetic ibd and could not be put on the ground . Maybe I am crazy but I always go home and wash Kinder’s paws and I make sure they are told to hold on her tightly when they carry her. Susan |

| How to Safely Lift and Hold a Small Dog | Dog Training Nation Found this article on the net w/videos as it might be helpful to visualize how you may have wanted the pups to be held. Suggestion that you could share with the staff that felt that the pups weren't supported well and you felt that they could have been dropped. I understand your perspective on not seeing the pups while you were checking out but give them the benefit of the doubt here that you had 3 pups (you and your mom) and lots going on that they were just trying to help you out before you got back on the road to get home or your next destination.

| I carry Emma in my left arm (right arm is dominant), almost like a football hold for a baby. It's comfortable and its secure for me.

| I hold both of them in the crook of my arm so that they are actually sitting on my forearm with my other arm wrapped in front so they stay secure against my body. This is usually only Sasha because she LOVES to be held while Max is the wiggle worm. He does not like to be held for long periods. Very rarely does anyone else hold them and when they do I stay within 2 feet.

| Unfortunately, Piper is a master of getting out of someone's arms. People don't expect the power that Piper packs and she can squirm and push herself out of the arms of almost anybody. She was, in fact, dropped on concrete floor at Walmart when a tall gal suddenly just picked her up!! It was horrifying and scary and thank god, lil' Pipe was okay. I am more experienced now and won't let anyone pick her up, but I will hand her over to family member and then she's fine as long as I stay close. And for sure I would be very upset if anyone walked away with Piper! I mean, I understand it was a well-meaning gesture, but geez, don't be just walkin' off with my dog, for heaven's sake! I totally get the anxiety aspect (you silly little thing)--And it's in every aspect of Piper's being...is she alright physically, mentally, emotionally...?? aiiyaiiiyaaiiiiii!!! |

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | Kids always want to pick up my dogs, and I just say no if they're too young. Everyone thinks I'm a meanie. If I think they're old enough, I teach them how to do it.

| I've noticed that each time they brought my babies back out, they carried them. I didn't really notice how they were holding them though. I guess it wasn't in any way that was alarming to me. So, I guess I never thought about questioning it. For some reason, I trusted that they would be able to carry them... makes me wanna be more alert for the next time though! I think I already ask too many questions at my vet. They probably find me so annoying.

| Totally not mean for watching out for your yorkie safety. As a yorkie mom/dad it is our responsibility to stand up for them when it could be a bit unsafe. I won't endanger my yorkie for the enjoyment of others even if they are kids. |
