| ![]() My sampson knows how to jump in a circle on his hind legs 1 circle for a treat. he wont sit unless i show him how. Makya knows only how to sit when a treat is given. They know "in" means stay in when the front door gets opened. Thats about it but we are working on it.Im going to have to try that clicker. |

With our little Sheltie (who looks like a mini Lassie) we prentend to have conversations with him like on the Timmy and Lassie show. "Where's Timmy?" - point finger - bark bark "He fell in the well?" - point finger - bark bark "Did somebody push him?" - point finger - bark bark You get the idea!! ![]() Oh yeah, The Yorkies are up on the basics: sit chill (down) hang (stay) go to your room (sit in cage and wait for treat) show me your belly (roll over) cummear (come here) lemme getcha (turn butt towards me so I can pick up) no barking shame on you (no begging)

| ![]() Yes, Mine all seem to have some trick-talent. They are magicians-they can turn their mommy into a servent. They can speak volumes (especially I wanna treat) without doing a thing except staring at me. They can turn daddy into a great imitation of Frick and Frack on ice getting under his feet every time he takes a step. Actually, I think they have us doing tricks for them.. |

| I am amazed with all these tricks your yorkies can do. Can someone please explain to me what the clicker method is. I have two yorkies a 3 and 2 1/2 year old. Do you think they are too old to learn any tricks? ![]() |

| ![]() YorkieMomma - the basis of clicker trainer is using a sound (often a clicker but it can be other things) to mark the exact moment that your pup is doing what you want him to. The reason for doing it that way is because by the time you just hand them a treat, it is often too late and they don't get what they are being rewarded for. The first step of clickertraining is make the sound - give a treat (without asking for any behavior at first). You repeat many, many times so that the dog (cat, chicken, gerbil, whale - the possibilities are endless) understands that click always means treat. When I get the time, I will start a "Clicker Training Basics" thread on the Training Board here at YT.

| ![]() This is the stuff that my yorkie Lacey knew: go get your bone (she would flip it in the air like a basketball) she knew all her other toys by name and would go get them go in your room (that was timeout when she was barking too much) she knew her treats by name (jerky and mailman cookies) she would start licking her lips and looking at the pantry door. time for bed (she would walk towards the bedroom door and wait for my dad to get there) let's go ride let's go outside (she actually knew I would not let her out without a leash) because she would go by the drawer I kept her leash in and bend down her neck for me to put it on. she knew all the dogs in the neighborhood by name (Buster the bloodhound was her favorite) You say Buster and she would go look out the window to see if he was in our yard. Barking like crazy. Mama or Daddy is home (she would start looking towards the laundry room door because that is where they usually walk in from) Flip (she would flip on her back when we would say that to get her tummy rubbed.) Time for your medicine when she had ear mites (everytime we mentioned medicine, she would run behind the couch) If we picked up the hair brush (she would hide. Hated getting her hair brushed) Let's go to the vets (would go hide. She understood that word) If you was not paying attention to her, she would go run and get her blanket from her bed and put it on your foot. Then, she would pull it over her head and pretend she was a ghost. Barking because she could not get it off. Oh, and she knew that she could not get a treat unless she finished her regular Science Diet dog food first. So, since she loved treats so much, she would come get us to let us know she cleaned her plate. I had a VERY smart dog. And she was a pet store dog. I guess I really lucked out when it came to Lacey. She acted more like a human than a dog. If only she could talk! I can't wait to see what Chloe's personality will be like.

| ![]() That video is so cute. I wonder if I could teach that one. Dee can sit, fetch, and comes when she feels like it. Sam can sit, lay down and come but only when he feels like it. He is so cute when he lays down 'cause he just flops.

| ![]() Wow, everyone is pretty amazing on tricks . . . looks like our yorkies are not just for "looks" . . . . My Tiger knows: SIT (comand and hand signal) STAY (command and hand signal) DOWN (command with Hand signal with treat in hand) ROLL (again and again and even without a command thinking he'd get a treat if he does this hahahaha) PLAY FETCH (and the DROPS IT on my lap so he can be rewarded) - we do this every morning PLAYS HARD TO CATCH (This is by far his best trick - as I can only catch him if he gets really tired) SPIN (on command with signal and treat in hand) Still working on "SHAKE" He started Puppy training 7 weeks ago and learned all of this and next will is graduation week Yipee! |

| ![]() So cute. How can I learn to teach my babies. I can't seem to get them to shake. Only sit and down. Is there a book or something. I live in Africa and they don't have classes for dogs here. Please help. Thanks
