| Newbie needs help potty training! I am new to this site and new to raising a yorkie, although I have raised other breeds from puppies. My little girl Bella is 5 months old and I am having a very difficult time getting her to go out to potty in her fenced off area by way of the doggy door. She will go out, come in and pee, and then go back out! She thinks she needs to pee on the floor rather than out in the fenced area. She will go potty outside if it is in the open yard, but I really need to get her to use the doggy door. I have to return to my school job soon and I am hoping to have her trained before that. Any suggestions as to why she is doing this and what I can do would be so appreciated. Last edited by Pip59; 08-04-2017 at 03:33 PM. |

| When you say doggy door is it an area with a top? If not she should not be using it because other animals can get her and kill her. You really need her to get the hang of going potty outside and then use the doggy door. Take her to the doggy door area todo her potty every time you take her out. Potty training can take awhile.

| Yes, we have it covered with a good aviary net. I take her out there every time except in the morning because when she decides to get up is when the sprinklers are going. And she poops every morning and likes to run a bit before that. But all other times I take her to the fenced area. She will outlast me and then come in and pee. I am sure it is because the breeder had her in an area with linoleum and she learned that was where she needed to go. I have had here since she was 10 weeks old and she is now 5 months and we are still working on it. I though maybe there might be some great trick I did not know about. She is my first puppy I have ever had a problem potty training. Our 7 year old Shelty goes out there and I thought that might help her get the idea, but so far it has not worked. She will use the doggy door to go in and out just fine....but does not want to potty while she is out there. Seems to think it is just to get her outside to enjoy the fresh air. : ( Last edited by Pip59; 08-05-2017 at 04:00 AM. |
