| Wall-e got his first shot today for the flu. Have to take him back in 3 weeks for the booster. Our vet advised us to keep the dogs at home for a while, no trips to Petsmart. Better safe than sorry!

| Wow what a scary thing, I have a vet visit coming up soon, I am going to ask my vet about this flu. I live in a tourist town, so many ppl from Fl. are up this way. I take my boy to as many places as I can, but he is always in the shopping cart, never walks on the floors. Always better safe then sorry is my motto. Thank you salshine for this heads up. I also have friends in Fl. that I have given heads up on this flu.

| I told my vet the same thing, my dogs never walk in Petsmart, just held or in the cart. Vet said that doesn't matter, if a dog coughs or sneezes, any dog within 20 ft would be susceptible. They are really concerned about the whole thing. The vaccine isn't cheap either, $45 each time.

| The Skeptvet has an update on canine influenza, as well as several useful links to information about the disease, here: Canine Influenza Update | The SkeptVet When we took our Bella in for vaccinations, the vet mentioned that Bella could be vaccinated for canine influenza, and we asked about the incidence in downstate Illinois, and she said that it wasn't a problem in our area--yet. In Illinois, it's still a problem mainly in the Chicago area. Based on that information, we did not get the vaccination. However, the next time we take her to the vet, I will reconsider and probably get her the vaccination. It's highly contagious, and all someone has to do is bring an infected dog down from Chicago and it could spread rapidly. Thanks for raising our awareness of this illness. |
