| Training Two Yorkie Puppies Hello Folks, I am looking for some advice on training two yorkie puppies. I understand well that it will be best to spend time alone with each puppy for walks, training, sleeping, etc. to ensure they bond well with their humans vs only each other. What I don't know is how best to leave them in the house when we are out for a few hours. Would it be best to keep them in separate rooms or in one room with a divider between them? Both situations could be accommodated in our home. Looking forward to your thoughts! Thanks! |

Keep them together when you leave so they can entertain each other. It s good for them to have their own space and separate bonding time but dogs are communal animals and keeping them separate for so long could be traumatic. It will not affect their ability to be trained. Having two pups at once can be both maddening and rewarding because they can be twice the trouble but at least you will sleep through the night and you won't have to deal with the separation issues that occur when they leave the litter. | As long as they do not fight with each other I would def. crate then together when you have to leave. They will not be lonely and crying the entire time you are gone.

| I definitely wouldn't crate them together. That's just my preference though. Mine have their own separate crates. When they were young puppies, I did separate them when I left the house, just mostly for piece of mind. I don't believe they found it 'traumatic' to be separated for a few hours. I didn't put them in separate rooms though. I wouldn't do that. Now since they're older and I know how they are with each other, I can let them be together when I leave the house. And they don't need to be put in their crates. But definitely for the piece of mind when they were younger I felt most comfortable having them separated. They still were learning how to play nicely and not too rough with each other plus at that time I was worried if a fight broke out, and I just didn't want to worry about them getting hurt. I wanted to really see how they were with each other and to get to a point where they understood that it is possible to hurt each other or bite too hard etc. Once they got to a point where I felt as though I didn't have to worry about that stuff anymore, then I'd let them be together when I left the house. But with young puppies I think there is more of a potential for them to get hurt, and I just wanted to avoid that. Plus with my situation the girl I had was really feisty. She was the boldest and feistiest one out of the whole litter. And let me tell you if a fight broke out, she'd fight to the death. It's not like that now. They're older and seem to have respect for each other and know how to be with and play with each other where there is no issue of someone getting hurt. So that was just how I did it for piece of mind. Two puppies at once can be challenging. But it can be done and you can end up with two very well adjusted dogs. |

Yeah, some times when they play wrestle, they need a break or a bit of space, ears could get caught between the frames of the crate and stuff like that. They should be kept together in a larger, playpen type situation or a sectioned off room. | |

| Thank you all for the feedback. I am thinking I should see how they do together and determine if I should separate when they are alone. I am not taking them home for another month or so. I am wondering what type of pen would be safest for them. My girl who passed away this year was a total Houdini and could escape from pretty much anything outside of a locked crate. |

Try an Iris pen or similar, which you can configure. Or a laundry room, powder room etc.

| Thank you! I actually just ordered two iris pens for them. I figure I can combine them for a larger space or separate them if need be. I can't wait to pick up our new little buddies of fluff |
