Last week was told having 4 pups today said didn't feel anything what gives??? Hi let me just give a bit if back round about the situation. Ok my yorkie was tied on March 31st 2017 and the 1st April 2017 ok so that would put her at about 4 weeks last Thursday when I went to the vet he palpatated her stomach said he felt 3 maybe 4 pups told me to come back a week later which would put her at just about 5 weeks today may 4, 2017 he palpatated her again but said he felt nothing didn't come out and say she wasn't pregnant just didn't feel anything. Told me to go back next week my question is this could it be the amniotic fluid surrounding the babies making difficult to feel? I'm from 4 to zip seems odd to me she hasn't grown much but has become picky about her food and her nipple seem more pronounced to me she has a "small round" belly but hasn't gained much weight about .2 of a pound here vulva seems to stick out but not like in heat there's a wee bit of discharge that I find caked up in her peepee hair so what gives? No one close gas a ultrasound machine and have to wait 2 more weeks to xray has this happened to any of you before she is 2 yrs tomorrow and her first mating any help is appreciated I'm soo confused I've started to get her whelping things together

Thought my vet would be best but just has me confused but there aren't many yorkie breeders here and I don't plan on becoming a breeder but I guess I'm a bit more over protective cause she's my baby and I want her to have the best possible time cause it will be her only time if pregnant

Technically I guess so but I am NOT going to continue to breed this is the only shot and I have already made an appointment 6 weeks out from the birth to get her fixed but if it turns out she is not pregnant then I will get it done asap yes I had her checked out short of blood work she was deemed a good candidate for mating and I waited 2 yrs to be sure her reproductive organs were fully mature so technically I breed her but really I am not a breeder as in breeding every cycle or as a means of support it doesn't matter if she is or not just confused as to how it from 4 pups to none to come back next week to check again that's it

Since you don't have a mentor or a breeder near you and you need some help I figured I can put what I know with what you know in hopes that you can get your questions answered. Puppies can be detected best by abdominal palpation about 28 to 35 days after breeding. Around this time frame, the puppies are about the size of walnuts and can be detected by touch. Palpating after this time frame is not recommended as the embryos rapidly enlarge and are no longer identifiable as distinct, individual swellings because fluids begin to surround the embyos(usually between day 33-35) which should now be turning into fetuses; however, the puppies can be directly palpated after day 50. My vet doesn't do well with palpation but my aunt breeds and pinpointed the exact number my girl is having. Hope this helps! Last edited by Clay; 05-04-2017 at 09:09 PM.

Hello - not an expert by any means but will pass on my experience. I have a giant schnauzer (yes I know big size difference) Long story short, wanted a pet that needed to be a female because I had a male aggressive bouvier at the time. Well giant schnauzer's are not a very popular breed so only one litter in Colorado at the time. I contacted the breeder (who producers maybe one litter every other year) and passed the owner 'test'. There were 3 puppies in the litter, one girl, well the girl turned out to be a show quality pup. Silly me not knowing what was involved - agreed and signed a contract for the pup (oh and paid a not so small fortune for my girl) well after was won national - finished her championship in 7 short shows I thought was done. Not so fast... I had agreed for her to go through numerous genetic tests and to be bred once before the contract would be considered fulfilled and I could get my girl spayed. I must say genetically and physically she is a very good representation of the breed. Now to my experience with her short pregnancy...she was bred to some big shot from Russia. Was returned to me pregnant - yep confirmed by vet, ultrasound whatever. She was getting bigger then she wasn't.? The vet told us that sometimes dogs will absorb their litters. Never heard of such a thing...but evidently it happens. I fulfilled the contract - at long last brought her in to be spayed - yay!! Interesting thing was that when the vet spayed her she found a huge growth in her uterus. Said it was not cancerous but may have become cancerous if not removed. Bottom line I think nature knows what's best. My girl is now 14 (very old for a big dog) and I am grateful for everyday. Don't know what's going on with your baby but I wish you all the best!

My biewer was bred in early October, pregnancy confirmed by ultrasound on November 15, due date December 27th, 3 embryos by ultrasound. Started producing milk but no babies, nothing on x ray, repeated ultrasound, no babies. She had lost the litter and absorbed them. It does happen. She did fine by the way, better than me actually.
