Scared to sleep in my room and looking at things

Lately for the last 3 days I notice Teddy is absolutely terrified to sleep in my bedroom. He has slept in my bedroom with me for the last 10 years and never had any issues really. He either sleeps in his bed by my bed or on my bed. But starting about 3 days ago he paws at the bedroom door to get out and wants to sleep in the living room. Then when I call him to come to the room he shakes and refuses. The first time I noticed it he wanted to be up on my bed and kept pawing at me so I put him up. Then I noticed he would sit and stare around the door area which he never does. When i put him on my bed he usually rolls around and lays down, or whatever. He NEVER just sits and stares at the air. It was so weird. He just wouldn't fall asleep. He kept looking around the room so I coaxed him and pet his back to make him calm down. He did while I was doing it then just went to sit and stare back at whatever he was looking at. When I went to get water he went in the living room to sleep and wouldn't come back. The next night the same thing happened. Even when I held him he would stare at a specific spot then tremble with fear, then keep looking back at the same exact spot! It's like he is looking at something I can't see. And it's always been at night so far. During the day he's fine and in the living room he is fine. Idk if he is looking at a ghost or what! But it's creeping me out and he doesn't want to sleep in the room with me Also my other dogs aren't acting strange and don't seem to notice anything like he does. Any ideas or suggestions would be helpful.

I wonder if something happened - like, he got injured, or something. Jackson can be quirky like that sometimes too. My lamp on my nightstand fell over once and it totally freaked him out. He didn't want to come in my room for a few days. Or he will see a fly or a bug and then doesn't want to come in lol. He's weird.

I would just keep doing what you're doing for now -- using yummy treats to try to show him it's okay. Do you have a night light or a TV on at night? Maybe having a little light will help?

I see now that Joey is not the only one that acts weird about things sometimes too like Jackson. He freaks out too over things that I don't see or understand like a bug or something falling down and the like and then he will be ok after a bit. Maybe it is just a Yorkie thing or a little dog thing and if you give him time he will get over wanting to sleep in the living room. I hope so as it is nice to have them with us when we sleep.

When my cat passed away, Duchess exhibited the same behavior. There was a chair in my room that my cat use to sleep on. The same night that I had to put down my cat, Duchess started barking at the chair uncontrollably. She was so scared that she would not come in my room. It took her several hours before she calmed down. I knew it was the cat because Duchess and my cat weren't the best of friends. I figured it was Zoey tormenting Duchess one last time before she went over the rainbow bridge.

I was right because the next night Duchess was fine. While I am not religious I do believe in the afterlife. I know for a fact that it was Zoey and I didn't feel scared or threaten in anyway. Zoey may have been the meanest cat on the planet but I knew she wouldn't do anything to hurt us (well she may have gave Duchess one last swap on her butt before moving on.).

In my old house Monroe would sometimes wake up at night and start growling/barking at this one corner of the bedroom, for no reason that I could determine (she’s also very rarely barks and that’s the only time I think I’ve heard her growl, so it was extremely strange). I would try to get her to stop but generally had to turn the light on, walk to the area she was staring at and then once she calmed a bit I’d put her on the ground and walk over to the area with her. Then, she would stop and we could go back to bed. It was so strange. I definitely had the, “is she seeing a ghost”?! thought too.

Has anything in the bedroom changed (moved/added furniture, even changed a scent in the room) ? Will he go into the bedroom at night with the light on? If so, maybe leave a light on for a bit while you sleep, then move to a nightlight until he’s more comfortable. And maybe give a couple treats in bed… I sure hope he comes out of it. I’d be heartbroken if my girls didn’t want to sleep with me. I’d probably end up in the living room with them. Haha.

The ghost stories totally creep me out! I'd be so scared in the middle of the night.

I also think maybe something scared him the last time he was sleeping in your room/bed. I guess try to do some luring and comforting to make sure he knows everything is safe in your room. Treats are always an easy way to start.

Hopefully he'll snap out of it soon!

My baby Casie likes to sleep in her bed where she can see me every single night. Scottie on the other hand, he's a mobile sleeper. Sometimes here and sometimes there. When he first decided not to sleep in his bed beside me I was a little upset, but I just let him be. Usually by the time I wake up in the morning, he ends back in his bed beside me. The only time he kept hiding in the living room was when I first brought Casie home and he couldn't stand being near her!

I have seen Cody watching something that did not appear to be there, at least to my naked eye. His head was darting back and forth and his gaze was fixated on something.

It could have been a mouse, or a spirit. Experts say when paranormal activity is active, animals are the first to be effected and have a reaction. They are supposedly very perceptive, and receptive, to this type of activity.

Just for the heck of it, burn some sage in your bedroom and see if that helps at all.
