| Barking when I leave Need some help. Every time I leave, Gidget sets up a barking session. I don't know how long it lasts because I just leave. She stays in her little puppy apartment so she has room to move from the potty section to her little bed. I'm going to be moving into an apartment on Monday. Dogs are permitted but excessive barking could be a real issue. I've had this apartment now since June so it's not a new concept for her. Is there anything I can do that might help calm her down? I'm thinking about putting an old p.j. bottom on her little bed so that she's got the feel that she's in my lap. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. SIGH |

| Other members can provide useful information, I'm sure, but you might try leaving a sweatshirt (recently worn) for Gidget to curl up on; Piper sleeps on my sweats while I'm at work. I leave the tv on--very low volume and also a low light accent lamp. Some members put kibble or treats or such, in special toy so their little ones have something to distract them and occupy their time. |

| I bought Thumper a Thundershirt and that helped. He also would bark when I leave. Eventually he understood the routine and it did not last long. The issue though is if I have to go back inside my apartment because I forgot something he will bark like crazy. What I do it completely ignore him. Get what I need and quickly leave. He will bark for a while but eventually calm down. You can always purchase a camera to see how long it lasts. I have the Nestcam set up and it works wonders.

| Mine use to bark too. But the following worked for me: Have you tried treat dispensing toys? And also to do the leave-and-come-back transition training (i.e. leave for 10 min & come back with a treat, leave for 30min and come back with a treat, leave for t+15 min and come back with a treat?). Obviously, giving her a treat only if she was quiet.
