| Adding Another Dog to the Family Hi YT! After 10 wonderful years with my Yorkie who I love more than life itself, my family has decided to add another dog to the mix. on Sunday we have an 8 week old male Labrador joining our family. I've read the books about integrating dogs together, but since this is a forum specific to the sensitivities and needs of Yorkie's, I was curious if anyone here has any advice on how to make this transition as smooth as possbile ( and hopefully enjoyable!) for my little one. Thanks in advance! |

| I know it's not quite the same but we had 2 cats when we brought Addie into our family. Anytime we went to visit Addie we played with a little teddy and brought it back to the cats. So they had her smell before she arrived. Then when we brought her home we kept them in separate rooms but rooms next to each other and they smelt one another by the door. The next day we brought Addie into the room. She was great and so was one of our cats but our oldest cat was so stressed. She hated her. Was heart breaking to see her so upset. Felt so guilty. Anyway we left her to soften on her own terms and pace and fast forward a few weeks and she's back to being a happy cat. Hopefully your dog will be welcoming. If they're well socialised I imagine it will go smooth. Good luck xx

| I know initially it was a bit rough on our old guy when we got a second dog... but they seem to be pretty good friends now. It took some time. |

| I have 5 dogs in our pack and have introduced them all at a neutral location first so they can say hello , before taking them home. I have been very lucky that they have all intergrated very well and have developed their own routine and hierarchy especially as two of the dogs are in and out of the pack due to work commitments. My Yorkie was the last one in and came from a single dig home and he settled in within days |

| I think the last disturbance that occurred was somehow the near toothless old guy latched onto the hind quarters of the new guy, 3 times his weight, and the new guy drug the old guy down the hallway, rear legs dragging, while he was trying to get away. That was almost two years ago shortly after we got Zippy. My better half and I laugh about it to this day. No one got hurt. |

| Congrats on getting your second! It's been 7 months since my second arrived. Be very prepared for some big time jealousy. My advice is to keep them mostly separated at first and only slowly integrate their time together, only when monitored. Slow n steady, best way to go Scottie hated Casie at first. It took him some time to accept her, be comfortable with her, and then to play with her...over the span of a few months. Just be patient. You could be lucky and it's love at first sight - not unheard of. If not, don't fret, with time they'll grow into it!
