I know it's not quite the same but we had 2 cats when we brought Addie into our family. Anytime we went to visit Addie we played with a little teddy and brought it back to the cats. So they had her smell before she arrived. Then when we brought her home we kept them in separate rooms but rooms next to each other and they smelt one another by the door.
The next day we brought Addie into the room. She was great and so was one of our cats but our oldest cat was so stressed. She hated her. Was heart breaking to see her so upset. Felt so guilty.
Anyway we left her to soften on her own terms and pace and fast forward a few weeks and she's back to being a happy cat.
Hopefully your dog will be welcoming. If they're well socialised I imagine it will go smooth.
