| Drinking water Does any one else's dog do this. When I take Boomer and Thumper out for the day I bring a bowl and water with me in case they get thirsty. For some reason they refuse to drink water unless they are desperate. For instance, yesterday we went to Central Park for a picnic and it was extremely hot out. After a long walk they were panting. I tried giving them water but they would only take a few sips. The minute we got home they ran to their water bowl and drank water for a good two minutes. If I place the same water bowl down in the apartment they will drink out of it so I know it is not the bowl. It seems they are just picky where they drink water. Even when I take them to friends houses they rarely drink water.

| My boys are a little like that. They will not drink during our walk or for most of an outing (I carry a water bottle). They wait until we return to the car. Max will not drink much until we get home. I believe the reason is they instinctively know not to load their stomachs with water when they are active. They shouldn't guzzle or drink a bunch of water during or immediately after physical exertion, especially in the heat. It's best to take a few sips and ease into drinking as they cool off. The water shouldn't be super cold either. I think it is partially a bloat issue, which isn't as much of a risk in smaller dogs, but can be deadly in larger dogs. There are other health reasons that I do not remember specifically. Same thing applies to humans, not drinking too much water in the middle of a marathon or other heavy physical activity.

| My last Yorkie was like that. My two now will drink water anywhere, even outside. Maybe it's because these two are used to it since they were puppies. My last Yorkie never really liked to be outdoors. These two always liked going out so they're used to drinking water outside. |

| MY Tessa will not drink bottle water no matter where we are or how hot she is. She has to have tap water. My sister's schnauzer is the same way. Makes me wonder what's in the bottle water they can sense? |

| Mine will not drink out of a bowl or cup she has to drink out of our bottled water. I guess it sounds gross but I feel humans have worse germs than dogs. Susan |

| Thanks everyone for the advice. My dogs are creatures of habit so it makes sense about the water. They did wonderful at Central Park. They were so exhausted from their walk that when we met up with my friends I was able to keep them off leash and let them have all the attention. They were happy to be on the blanket and gets tons of belly rubs.

| The only time my two won't really drink is if the water is lukewarm. Especially Magnus! At home too. Even if the bowl is full of FRESH water, if it's lukewarm, he turn his nose. If no one pays attention and he gets thirsty, he'll go over to the water dispenser (he knows that's where the drinking water comes from) and paw at it till someone notices. Once the bowl is filled with fresh COLD water, he'll drink it up like he hasn't drank in days! When we go out, I always put crushed ice into the bottle to keep it cold. Seriously.... the things we do for our furries... LOL |

| I spoil my boys so much. I actually don't think if I had kids I would do as much for them as I do for my furbabies.
