| Mother/Daughter behavioral issue Hello all. First of all, not sure if this thread is in the correct message board area, but I'm hoping it is. Anyway, I have a question regarding my two Yorkies – mother and daughter. Mom is 9 years old. Daughter is 4 years old. The two have been inseparable since birth – best friends; playing together, sleeping together, rarely apart. However, just recently, daughter started to become very aggressive towards mom – as if she “snapped” – attacking Mom for (from our eyes) no reason. In some cases, we need to keep them apart from one another. Now, they each get the same amount of love and attention – so we rule out jealousy. The only thing we can think of is that mom was very recently spayed – and possibly she is giving off some scent that daughter it reacting to. But, as mentioned, this just came out of the blue. Any thoughts on this strange behavior? |

| Same sex aggression is very common in bitches. Especially when they are intact. Another thing to consider is the daughter may be in pain. Has she seen a vet recently?

| Same sex aggression ... Thanks for the reply!!! But, for 4 years there was never a problem. Just all of a sudden. If same sex aggression is common, is this how it plays out ... perfect for 4 years, then all of a sudden a drastic 180-degree change? Also, they are from the same blood line -- does that even matter? Finally, the daughter does not seem to be hurting at all. Same tail wagging, smiling dog as every other day -- nothing out of the ordinary with her health. But, we could take her to the vet. |

| I had 3 females, all 3 years apart, 2 older ones not spayed, the 3rd spayed, none related, there was never a growl, snarl no kind of aggression. They ate lined up, slept and played together. Only thing I can think of is the momma getting spayed and the aggression started, momma may have a dif. smell that the daughter does not recognize. When I had the puppy spayed my vet told me to be careful when she came home, he said the two older dogs may not recognize her scent, he said the pup would be coming home with dif. dog smells on her from the dogs being held over, just a thought on the recent aggression. Hope you can work this out.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Is the daughter spayed? If not, I'd def do that asap. It's tough to say what it's from but yes, it could be from sensing the adjusting hormones in the Momma. Or, she could be some sort of pain too, making her lash out...
