| Poor Babies are Sick :( Boomer and Thumper are not feeling well today and I can't be there to comfort them. Both had diahrea this morning when I took them for a walk. Boomer worse than Thumper and this morning I saw on my monitor that Thumper either Pooped/Peeped or threw up as I heard a hacking noise. I can't tell because where he did it was at the edge of the video. My dog walker is coming around 1:45 pm - 2 pm so I asked her to check for me. I feel so helpless. I don't have any more time this year to take off from work as I plan to be off the last two weeks of December to spend with them. All I want is to be there to comfort them. They are resting now as usual when I am not home. I think they had too many treats last night between training and I gave them an extra treat for Hanukkah. I also have been trying them on a new wet food protein. This morning I only gave them pumpkin to help with their stomach. They have never had diarrhea or thrown up before is there a specific point where I should be more concerned and take them to the vet? There was no blood in the stool. Just green because of the dental stick that had the morning before. My dog walker said that Boomer yesterday was peeing more than usual (I am not sure if she meant peeing or just marking as he likes to do) however, at night with me he seemed fine. She said their poop was fine. This morning I saw four spots on their pee pad not sure who peed. They were both really thirsty last night after training. Usually I cut off their water after 8 pm but let them have it that evening so I left out pee pads for them to use. |

| I never take up water, they have access to water ATC, especially when they are pee pad trained!. I free feed, but I could easily adopt a designated feeding schedule after a year old.....I dont remember how old your pups are.... What is the new wet food protein? Pumpkin for their tummies is great....You mentioned "green....dental stick", is that one of those "Greenies"? Those made more than half my dogs sick/not feeling well, so I did not give those anymore! I have not been much help...just throwing a few thoughts out there....I have been very fortunate all these years, with no sickness! Maybe an occasional upset tummy when I got over-zealous with adding/supplementing my dog's diets with stuff that I thought would be really healthy for them. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Since they're both sick at the same time, makes me kinda wonder about a tummy bug...

I agreeI think it is some type of stomach bug. Both are just reacting differently. I got a vet appt. for tomorrow evening since Thumper won't drink water out of the bowl. Since his poop was better I gave him some bland pasta soaked in water to get him to drink. That seemed to help. Boomer threw up last night a tiny amount so I haven't given him any food yet. I'll see how he does today. He is drinking water on his own. So that is a good sign. If I see blood or feel it has worsen I'll take them to the local ER this evening. Both are just so lethargic and sleeping all the time. Though when I take them for a walk their tails wag and they are happy. They just aren't their normal self the past couple days. Hopefully I am worrying over nothing and this will pass. | |

YorkieTalk Newbie! | My little Emmie has been the same....took her to the vet blood work normal, x-ray normal except for gas and inflammation. Vet says she has gastroenteritis. But she has not been herself the past few days. I think she is disgusted with the Flagyl. She thinks I'm going to give it to her when I feed her and avoids being fed until she is really hungry. Lying down and sleeping but more alert than she has ever been... Her history....she has stomach flare up every 4-6 weeks or so...I need to get to find out why this is ocurring. | If the poop was green I would think it would be the greenie's,. As a treat I would only give one greenie, if you gave them both more then one, it may have disagreed with their digestive systems. Hope the boys are better today. Please keep us posted.

| I have a vet appt tomorrow for Boomer and Thumper should I bring a stool sample with me? Dog walker said Thumper is still having Diarrhea and yellow in color. Also she said they are shaking on and off. I asked her to take a video so I can see and also show the vet tomorrow. I only notice them shaking when they get excited and I have been watching them all day on the video and did not see any shaking myself. I am so worried for them. The vet visit can't come soon enough! |

| Watch for dehydration, clear pedialyte and no sodium chicken broth can be life savers- literally. When Lilah got gastroenteritis last spring (I also got overly zealous with the treats) in about 24 hrs, less than 48, she had lost nearly half a pound (of her 4.6!) and despite spoon feeding her wet found and her little licks pedialyte off of my fingertips, she still required sub q fluids. It was pretty scary! Good luck with your boys, I hope they are feeling better soon.

| Hi im new to YT. I've owned yorkies exclusively for the last 10 years. The symptoms you describe, to me sound just like upset stomach due to the high fat content in wet food and treats. Yorkies in my experience dont do well with treats because of their tiny livers cant handle fatty foods or treats so well. But you should in fact take a sample of their stool to your vet to rule out any others factors. Hope your babies feel better soon.

| Update Went to the Vet yesterday and the according to him the boys developed a virus. He said the treatment would be the same if it was just a digestive issue as well. He gave them a shot of B2 or B12 can't remember which one to speed up the process. He isn't given them meds right now since they seemed to be recovering well. He said if the diarrhea didn't go away in a day or two call and he will prescribe something. I felt so much better afterwards he said everything I was doing was the right course of action. When I was at the Vet it seemed like a Yorkie reunion in the waiting room their were about 4-6 yorkies waiting to be seen. And of course Boomer being himself peed right when he got to the exam room and not 20 minutes afterwards had a big puddle of diarrhea when I walked him. LOL only he does that. This morning both were their energetic selves waking me up at 5 am to try and go out. They haven't done that since Monday morning. It put a smile on my face. They are also drinking more water. I put kibble in their bowl and it was like they were bobbing for apples who can get to it first. There poop this morning was soft but formed so that is an improvement. Hopefully in a few days they will be back to normal. Tomorrow I am taking them to Petco to take pictures with Santa. |

| I cant cite specifics, but I think I have read somewhere that the Greenies are really not that good to give our little guys.
