I've always wanted a small Yorkie and I've found one. She's 1 1/2 yrs old, she's had 1 litter of pups and she's so pretty. I love her coloring. She has a golden color with the blue on her back. She has a long coat right now. It's very long but seems thin to me. The lady said it doesn't get tangled and it's easy to brush. She said her hair has never been cut and she trims the hair above her eyes to keep it out of her eyes. She weighs 4-4 1/2lbs. When I get her she's getting spayed. I'm nervous about that because she is small. Should I be?
I am getting her on the 17th. Can't wait!!!

I wouldn't worry about her size affecting the procedure. I have a little girl that's charting 3.5-4lbs and asked my veterinarian about her size possibly making the future spaying of her difficult, and the doctor convinced me that it's not an issue. I think that surgery is done on small sized dogs quite often without any issues. But maybe do some research and talk to multiple doctors just to get an idea of whether or not you should worry. I would've been more worried myself about her having a litter of puppies at her size. I'm sure if you go back in the pedigree you'll probably find a 10 lb yorkie. I always heard that 5lbs was pretty much the minimum size for breeding. But who knows. I'm far from an expert on these things. Congrats on getting a yorkie though. That's exciting!

Congratulations on your soon to be new little baby girl.
Did the person you are getting this baby from say WHY she is selling this little girl?
Breeding a 4 /4.5 lb is more dangerous then spaying. We are all nervous when it comes to spaying or neutering our babies. Spaying is the BEST health wise thing you can do for this precious little girl. Just make sure your vet does blood work to make sure her liver can filter the anesthesia. A lot of vets skip the blood work to save us the clients the extra expense. Hopefully others will chime in about the importance of blood work.
Spaying is performed to eliminate females from getting Pyometra which can in most cases be fatal, I lost a baby years back from this, because I was to afraid to have her under go the procedure, my girl died before my very eyes. I would never want anyone to go through what I experienced and to see their baby suffer the way mine did.
Spaying also eliminates mammary gland cancer.
Spaying DOES NOT change a pups personality
Spaying DOES NOT cause a female to gain weight.
Spaying is a life saving procedure.

!!! How exciting!

Once she's settled in a bit, I would get this little girl spayed. As long as you do the pre-surgical bloodwork and get IV fluids during the surgery, your little girl should be safe.

You must be so anxious & excited. I am excited for you! I cant eait to see photos. I too am in total agreement of having the blood work before the spay/neuter & support spaying.

I too would want to know why this breeder is giving up this gal. But I too agree with spaying her. And besides the regular pre-surgery blood work I would have a BATS done Bile Acid Test - it can tell you more about the health of her litter.

Hair being thin could be a function of pregnancy and whelping or just be the type of coat she has.

Ido hope she fills your heart with happiness!

The breeder is no longer going to breed. She wants to travel with her husband now that her kids are older. She said it's time to live life. I met both her and her husband and I'll be going to their house to see Lady Bug soon.
I will have blood work done again. She's had blood work done once before. I saw all the paper work.
She will be spayed. Definitely! Just worried about her. And not eating afterward. What can I try to give her if she won't eat.
I'm so excited I finally get to have a Yorkie and one that's so beautiful. As for pics, I can never get them to post. I have tried before.

I'm very glad that you are getting her spayed. I wonder why though the breeder doesn't spay her first then let you pick her up. That's what i would do. Not to say that you wouldn't keep your word, but if she were to get into the wrong hands before her spay.

How wonderful for you and for your new little LadyBug to have found one another! Insofar as post-op, your vet should provide you with thorough verbal and written instructions, as well as a 24 hr emergency contact. In addition, your little girl will let you know how she's feeling and what she wants. In Piper's case, she mainly wanted to sleep (best thing for her) and I offered her bites of chicken which sometimes she accepted, other times not. And of course, have fresh water available. Again, if you have any questions or concerns in the days after bringing her home from surgery, call your veterinarian without hesitation; either your doctor or the assistants will be happy to answer any questions and/or clarify instructions! It'll be fine, but I get it because I paced and couldn't take a deep breath until I got the call saying Pipe was out of surgery and doing well...nerves are understandable, but trust your vet.

I've talked to the breeder and she said she's doing well. I'm going to see if I can see her Saturday for a couple hours. I want to see how she is at home. I know when she's not with her puppies she follows everyone around the house.
I'm excited to get her!

Update: I went to visit her! Drive an hr each way to visit her an hr! That's ok. I just want her to know me when I get her. The 17th isn't coming fast enough. It wa a joy playing with her. One thing I noticed is that she didn't have toys to play with. But I got kisses and got to see how she is at home. I saw her puppies, she had 2 girls and 2 boys. So cute and they all looked alike! Lol
She's just so pretty and I hope she adjusts well to being in my home.
