Question about Biewers
 
When I take my Biewer to the vet, (Lacy has seen three vets who have never heard of a Biewer) they put down "Terrier Mix" for the breed. Is this correct? Doesn't seem so to me, shouldn't it say Biewer Terrier instead of Terrier Mix? Do I need to educate the vet that a Biewer is a registered Breed? Or is Terrier Mix acceptable? I am just curious. lol

I would tell the vet's office your preference. On the one hand, it's just a piece of paper at your vet's office and doesn't really make a difference in health care. But, I understand it being bothersome.

The first time I took Max to our current vet's office, the receptionist asked me to identify his breed. I said Yorkshire Terrier and she said that his ears were "enormous" so he didn't look like a Yorkie. Being a proud momma, my feelings were hurt.

We are all just so proud of our pups, we want them to have their due appreciation. No one should say a Yorkie doesn't look like a Yorkie because his ears are too big, good grief.

AKC calls them Biewer Terriers. I would simply ask the vet to put that on the records.

Are they saying your pup is not a Biewer because his ears are too big? I am not quite following your drift....

OP, I get the "he can't be a yorkie" comment all the time. I even got it once from someone here. Yorkie or not, I don't care. Kaji is my baby. As long as he's my cuddlebug baby, he could be whatever you want him to be. (Can you tell I get that comment VERY often :rolleyes:)

Does it matter who she is replying to? I asked a question because it didn't make sense to me and I was trying to "get it". I was wondering if the vet does not know what a Biewer is or if he said he is not a Beiwer because of a certain look.

We have a lot of pups on this forum who are not yorkies. I don't see why that is a concern.

Are you all saying that a biewer is a yorkie? If so, I could see why someone might question that; but it is a topic I avoid here because it is similar to discussing religion or politics. Everyone has his/her own opinion and it leads to out of control silliness.

Bottom line...again, I love all of my pups. Purebred, mix or whatever they are and don't care what anyone calls them. None of them, nor I need any validation whatsoever.

There is not a dog alive that I think is any less or more than another. They are totally awesome

I'm sorry. I simply meant the big ear reference was in reply to Kristin's comments about her pup having big ears. No slight intended.

A Biewer is a BREED, I would insist my vet record my pup as a Biewer Terrier. Vets need to be aware there is now a NEW BREED which is known as a Biewer Terrier. Because my now passed girl weighed in as an adult at 17 lbs my vet thought she was a Silky because of her size. I told my vet her AKC papers read Yorkshire Terrier and that is what she is. I would be insulted if I owned a Biewer and my vet recorded my pup as a TERRIER MIX. If it were me, and the vet would not record my dogs proper breed I would find a vet that would, but that is just ME lol.

I think that's funny Kristin! I keep Emma in a long coat because she looks so pretty. When I had Troy in long coat I was sure to always have him in blue because people would confuse him with a girl.


To the OP, I think it'll all come in time with the training and your sanity will return.

You're a much bigger person than I am. The gender thing is the only thing that I don't let slide. I have no idea why it bugs me so much, it just does. Kaji gets called a she even with short hair. :rolleyes: Knowing me I would have said something nasty back at that comment.

But yeah, they should know gender even if our boys look a bit feminine. :D
