I always ask people....I don't even call a baby a he or she unless I know fo sure. People just don't think.

Teddy sympathizes with Kaji. Everyone thinks he is a girl, even when I have him in boyish things and colors. Part of it might be that the person has only had female dogs or has been around mostly female dogs -- I was that way. Most of my life, no one I knew had male dogs

My George was always mistaken for a girl and Armani gets it all the time and now with Pippi's hair shorter...she is a boy unless she is dressed. :rolleyes:
I am just so used to it that I simply advise the person of the sex...sometimes I don't even do that. Not people I am going to see again anyway. Now vet and vet techs? Uh, yeah they should know who they are seeing.

Piper wears metal ties (as in menswear) and a little rhinestone bowtie with certain sweaters cuz I just think she looks sooo danged cute in 'em. And sure enough, my little girl, who is rather a tomboy, gets the cute little fella comments! I like to think she's just well-rounded and in touch with both her feminine and masculine side...yeah, right!!

The puppy you received from the breeder in Washington only breeds Biewers.

Biewer Terriers are from one particular group of breeders who call them BT. BT believe their dogs are from a mix of dogs

90% of the breeders breed Biewers not BT. Kathy registers her dogs as Biewers. Biewers are not a mixed breed. I have introduced many a vet to Biewers and their standard. If you own or buy a rare breed dog, I believe it is your responsibility to educate your vet. Just because they haven't heard of a Biewer, doesn't give them the right to mislabel the dog or identity it as a mixed terrier.

Thanks, Dee, but don't quite understand your statements - BT believe their dogs are from a mix of dogs. What does BT stand for? Biewer Terrier? Does that mean that they are only supposed to be called Biewers, and not Biewer Terriers? Even the AKC calls them Biewer Terriers. I am confused. Not difficult for me to be these last few days. lol

I appreciate you letting me know that I need to educate the vets that she is not a mixed breed. I will do that. I will find something on the web that I can copy and give to them. Thanks!

Thanks Joan, I agree with you! I will ask that they put Biewer Terrier instead of Terrier Mix on Lacy's records.

BT is Biewer Terrier. Kathy doesn't sell Biewer Terriers. She sells Biewers. Verbage is important.

Oaky, I am TOTALLY at a loss for understanding this. But it has been a very stressful week, so please forgive me. What on earth is the difference between Biewers and Biewer Terriers? That is VERY confusing. Sorry, is is it just me who doesn't understand this? Is my mind completely frazzled with the stress of the last few weeks? When I searched the web for Biewers, I think most sites said Biewer terriers. I would just like to understand all this, as I have a biewer and would like to know everything I can about them. Can you direct me to a article that explains all this? Thank you so much!

This website has a lot of information on Biewers and Parti Yorkies. http://www.snowblueyorkies.com/parti...difference.htm This makes sense to me as to how the color came about. What do you all think? There are several pages of information if you go to her home page as well.

Thanks for the link to the article, I just read it. Unfortunately, I do not see a date as to when it was written. In part, it states, "The Parti yorkshire terriers are AKC registered and the Biewers are not , AKC considers them both yorkies and not a rare breed as the Biewer Breeders have portrayed them."

But I believe that 2 years ago, the AKC accepted the Bewier as a separate breed, is that not correct?

From what I have read, the AKC has recognised the Biewer Terrier as a new breed under their FSS program (foundation stock). If these are descended from 2 purebred Yorkshire Terriers as per Mrs Biewer how can they be a new breed? If they are indeed a new breed then they were originally a mix of 2 or more breeds and not descended from 2 purebred Yorkshire Terriers. Confusing, isn't it?

Is the Biewer recognized by the AKC?
In May of 2014, the AKC’s FSS division provisionally accepted the "Biewer Terrier" as a new breed. Here is the statement AKC provided about the “Biewer Terrier” on their website.
"The Biewer Terrier is being recorded in the AKC Foundation Stock Service® -

So what exactly does that mean???

I think it means they are recognised as a new breed but not fully accredited by the AKC. From what I understand, they can't compete in AKC conformation shows yet. I'm sure the Biewer Terrier Breeders on the forum will be able to better explain this to us.
