| fun ways to play with my dog? My yorkie puppy is really a busy boy and he loves playing but i don't know how to play with him. He doesn't like tugbof war that much and doesn't bring the ball back when i throw it any fun games that's easy to play with to "bond"? |

| When I first got Piccolo, someone suggested doing some things with a clicker and it really helped us bond. I don't do it anymore but there are some tips on the internet about using a clicker to teach tricks, etc. Another thing someone suggested was throwing a small treat down the steps. Piccolo absolutely loved that when she was younger. Then she would run back up and sit and wait for me to do it again. It really drained some energy. I think I used almost frozen green bean pieces. Anyway, enjoy the puppyhood journey.

| I played blanket monster with Barney a lot when he was a pup. I would put my hand under the blanket and he would chase it around to grab it. I have heard that this can confuse them and they will be biters. This was not my experience with Barney. I don't know if he is unique, but he learned very quickly to only grab at my hand under the blanket.

| Well, with Harry, we play 'sweep up the rubbish'...which involves chasing him round our back garden with a broom... We play hide-and-seek with bits of chicken (or with my husband Andy, if he's home...) We play wildly throwing and chasing Harry's squeaky Kong Air tennis ball up and down the stairs (you have to have 3 and throw them in quick succession as he brings one back...) Oh, and we bought Harry one of those 'Hide-the-Squirrel' games - but unfortunately he ate the squirrels so that was a bit of a dead loss - others on here with more 'normal' dogs have thoroughly enjoyed it, though!! | So funny! Barney doesn't kill his toys (except for one stuffed monkey who clearly deserved it), but he takes off with every new toy and hides it under the bed in his "stash." Sometimes they suck the fun right out of our well planned events.

| Teddy loves tag where I'll stomp and act like I'm going to pick him up then he'll run around the house then come tap or (playfully) bite me and if I can catch him I give him a belly rub and once he's calm we play again! As a puppy he was more into just throw the ball I'm not bringing it back but as he aged he realized I can throw it again if he brings it to me (we are still working on dropping it) but tug of war has always been a fave of his. My last bonding game is tricks it's how my mom and Teddy became friends and it's how he learned to earn treats so whenever he wants a treat I'll ask him if he wants a cookie and grab a treat and he'll sit and wait or jump like crazy depending on mood. Start with the basics like sitting it'll take a crazy pup a little to master the stay after a while

| Good Question! I am wondering the same thing, how to play with my three month Lacy, she does not like any of her toys, and I can't figure out how to play with her. |

| Lol I love reading all of your stories! I was thinking of getting one of those hide a squirrel toys I should get it. My baby is 6 months today! Beowulf makes me chase him he grabs one of his toys and wants me to chase him, and when I stop he bites my feet sometimes he bites really hard and it hurts Lol I'm working on that with him. I do teach him tricks with treats. He now knows how to sit and lay down now i'm working on throwing paw into the rotation.

| BunnyGhourl, Yesterday, I got my Lacy to play with me for the first time. Like your puppy, she would not chase a ball or play with any toy at all. Went to the pet store to find some new toys, was looking for something with a bell in it, to make some noise, but there wasn't anything like that. Bought a few other toys and found one she likes! It is a small hard tennis ball, about 2 inches. I gave it to her and she started chewing on it, and was starting to get some of the fluff off of it, so I rolled it away from her and she went and got it! YEA!!!! So I rolled it 20 times and she went and got it every time. Now we have something we can play with. Am so happy! I would not leave that tennis ball with them though, as they may get too much fluff off of it and swallow it. You might want to buy one for your pup, I think most pet stores have them. Good luck. |

| Harrysmum, no I did not see those. I asked the employee if they had any balls with a bell in them and he said no. I will have to try and find what you are talking about. Thanks! |

| Have a look at The Best Durable Dog and Cat Toys & Treats from the KONG Company - on some of the toys, you can even turn the squeakers on and off...

| Ha ha ha! Sally, your games sound terribly fun admittedly, there will be no funny business with the broom at my house - insert stern look here- because I would never get any sweeping done that way. I love that you have to throw three balls! Lol. We have the squirrel game too but I think the squirrels migrated to the kids toy boxes instead of lilahs...I should look into that. Lilah is not really a toy eater, she also has destroyed a monkey (clearly those monkeys are asking for it!) and she will eventually kill a squeaker. She really likes skineez toys- they are like flat squirrels or sheep or polar bears with squeakers in their heads and tails and we just flop them around and squiggle them, maybe occasionally squeaking it ourselves and she has a ball 'killing' it. That is mostly how we play. Lilah does fetch a small tennis ball. But eventually decides she must keep it. Trick training is a fun way to engage, focus and expend a little bit of energy and regular walks are really beneficial. I wish we walked more and had a little schedule about it. Frozen veggies are a great treat, I hear a lot of folks use Cheerios. You could build your own mini ability course- sometimes we will set up a row of cans and practice weaving. We got a crinkly cat tunnel but the crinkle really freaked her out so that was a no go, lol. Hope your having fun and finding ways to engage! I know that was a really rough one for me. Honestly I still think Lilah should have a friend and she would be a happier player- it's gotta be tough being a pack animal, especially say a four pound one and nobody else is like you or your size and doesn't quite play the same way. We have a friend we do social visits with (a Maltese) but not often enough. Good luck!
