| Over weight Hi everyone Im new to this site but not to the yorkie world. I have rescued 4 of them and they keep my home alive and fun. Here is my question. My oldest girl has gained weightand Im trying to find a dog food that will give her some flavor and yet is healthy. She prefers wet dog food..Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. |

| There are brands of dog food that specifically cater to the age, the activity level, etc of the dog that is eating it. Royal Canin is categorized as to age and needs of the individual dog (there are many brands that do this, and I have never bad mouthed any other brand of dog food). I can say I have fed RC for 30+ years with excellent results in the health of my dogs and with no distress, and I highly recommend it. (There is apparently a dentist that deals in dog food.....I dont think he likes it, but then he uses reviews/information/recommendations from the specific company he writes for and readily admits that.) | Quite often weight can be controlled by intake. Instead of changing foods how about limiting how much he eats?

| Food Great idea if the dog will accept the reduced amount. If not, most good dog foods have a Healthy Weight food line, like Wellness and Earthborn I think, for two. I am sure RC has such a food category also. I like Earthborn as the ingredients are good and it is relatively low fat. Don't know if they have wet food though. |

| Magnus was overweight so I was trying to put him on a "diet". He had NO waist! Tried reducing food and more exercise but mom kept giving him extra during the day b/c he seemed so hungry. So basically, I wasn't getting anywhere. He was on Wellness for small breed (healthy weight). Now he's on The Honest Kitchen. He's lost 2-3 lbs and looks just right. Zoey's a bit of a picky eater and she loves this food as well. You just mix with water, wait 3 min for the food to hydrate and tada~ If you do a search for THK, you can probably find more info on it. Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Is it possible she has gained weight bc of a health issue...or is she just eating too much with not enough activity?

| My vet stated in his records that Thumper is over weight as well. I started on the Blue Buffalo Healthy Weight brand but am changing it bc his brother seems to have some type of food allergy. I watch his intake. He actually does not eat as much as his brother but is not as energetic. I am trying to get him to exercise more. I also limit the amount of treats I give him. |

| I tried this with Mickey and he started eating his poop. He has never done this and is 17 months old. He only eats 1/2 cup Wellness complete health per day and one cookie at night and 5 pieces of green beans for lunch.

| Ugh I'm in the same boat, and in my case, it's my mother overfeeding my baby when I'm at work/etc. I feed premium food (Wellness) and have to explain that's it's got higher calories and lots of nutrients, so she doesn't need as much. But no, my mother believes if she didn't eat all day, she much be starving and needs to be manually fed >_>; And mind you, the food and water is laid out 24/7, they have free feeding rights, but tend to wait on my mother to feed them cause she gives them "the good stuff" >_<
