I would personally rather save an "imperfect" dog's life any day when there are so many dogs who need love and homes rather than opt for a dog who has been fortunate enough to have been born in a good situation. Everyone is different, but for me, I don't care about papers or bloodlines (although I hope for good health, someone's got to take care of the dogs who are special needs. and so far, she is getting healthier . I am pretty imperfect and have chronic illness, so hey, we get each other, lol. She chose me and needed me and came in to my life, the scruffy, street dog mess that she was and she is my family, no matter if she a mutt, a champion, whatever! What you wrote is sadly all too true. Duke and Maya are among the lucky ones who ended up with a loving and good mama. I used to do dog rescue and it's common practice to dump dogs on craigslist, lie, lie, lie, and try to make a little money. That is how I saved my girl. Someone claimed to be pregnant and getting evicted and was trying to sell her for others to use as a breeding dog. No papers, no backstory. I contacted the woman and found out she had sold Moxie already to someone she hadn't checked out AT ALL. First come, first serve They could have been dog fighters or on drugs or psychopaths. They showed up, gave her money, and she handed over her supposedly beloved dog. Lo and behold, several days later, Moxie (under her old name) shows up on craigslist again. The new owners claimed they had had her for several weeks (complete lie, they had her for several days) and that they simply didn't have time for a dog. Oh, and had the audacity to charge $400 for a dumped dog with no papers that they were re-dumping, I assume because she wasn't potty trained and they didn't understand dogs aren't stuffed animals. When I contacted them, they said I had to get her immediately, like that day or they would dump her. Unbelievable. These are often the type of people selling dogs on craigslist (along with the backyard breeders ![]() I got there and they were ready to hand over this poor dog who came with no collar, a leash, nasty cheap kibble, and a pink dress. No warm clothes (it was Feb), no harness, no tags, no healthy food, no shampoo, nothing. They asked me no questions to determine whether I would be a good owner, only if I had the money. Mox had never been outside or interacted with other dogs. The first month, she screamed and freaked out at every dog she saw. She had no idea she was supposed to poop outside. It breaks my heart how heartless people continue to do this- get dogs they don't know how to take care of, get mad when the dog misbehaves because they are bad owners, or became irritated when they realize yorkies are not just purse dogs and do need exercise and stimulation. So they sell their dogs to the first bidder, who often will dump the dogs again because they don't have the time, money, understanding, or patience to deal with a rescue dog. These dog often get traded around several times, often ending up in kill shelters, abandoned as they age, or dead from owners who don't invest in vet care. So while I am VERY GLAD these people who can't handle their pets post them on craigslist instead of leaving them on the street or at a kill shelter, there aren't always happy endings. It's so sad, I almost want to write to those people and beg them to give their dogs to yorkie rescues instead of selling them off to people who at worst, may want to breed them or use them as bait dogs. And craigslist should try to regulate and differenciate between those who are trying to rehome one pet they have and those who are just backyard breeders. When someone is selling 8 week old puppies for $450 and calling it rehoming, the ad should be flagged and taken down. It's illegal, I wish they would arrest these people | |

| @Lady Gemma (I have no idea which button copies posts on here) Your message is spot on and Big hugs to you for seeing Moxie's situation and stepping up to rectify it! It would be really awesome if the creators of Craigslist would add moderators or something to monitor the site and track/trace the inappropriate sellers they seem to readily attract. Even better permanent posting blocks on the flagged posters so they can't come back under different info!
