New Yorkie owners Just wanted to say hello.... We recently adopted our first yorkie... We named her Mia We don't get to take her home for another 4 weeks though so we are doing lots of research in the meantime. We lost our 12 year old black lab last May so this will be quite an adjustment for us going to a such a little dog and learning her personality and traits from what we are used to. But we are very excited to get Mia and welcome her into our home and I feel like this site will be our main go to .... Lots of helpful information already !!

Thank you MzLynnC Mia is about 5 weeks old right now. We had spent weeks searching and communicating with another breeder and it fell through minutes after we sent our deposit for a male puppy . (Apparently miscommunication, they also breed yorkiepoos.. Not what we were looking for and they gave had already given our requested yorkie away) My husband and I were so disappointed and dreading telling our kids.. 16 & 20.. Not really kids but puppy lovers We started another search right away and another breeder had just posted minutes before with a new litter... We contacted right away and had first choice! It's kind of fate as we had originally wanted a girl but there had been none available in our previous search. She is about 7 hours away and although the breeder has offered us to visit it's a long way to go.. she has been very kind to send us pictures though in the meantime ! We are counting down the days

We were in exactly the same situation to you...we lost our gorgeous lemon Labrador Rosie at age 14...and we didn't want to replicate her in any way - she would have been an impossible act to follow. Which is why we got Harry! I must admit, after reading so much, that I was extremely pleasantly surprised how easy Harry was to potty-train, in fact to train in general. Rosie was far more 'biddable' than Harry - but then I think that's girls in general. Rosie would come over for a stroke - but Harry's a true snuggle-bug. What I would suggest is that you learn the 'Yorkie Shuffle' - they're very Velcro dogs and little Mia will probably be constantly somewhere near your feet I wish you all the happiness in the world, and enjoy your 4 weeks of shopping! Sally + Harry x

WELCOME to the group, and congrats on your new little fur baby! Don't worry about going from a large dog to a small one. When I was married, we had a german shepherd. I mentioned to my ex that I would love to have a "lapdog". At first, he was really against it. A few days later, he told me if that was what I really wanted to go ahead and get one. To make a long story short, I got Tiffany, a Yorkie, and took great pains to make sure she bonded with my ex. I always put her on his lap and gave him treats for her, so she soon learned that all she had to do was jump on his lap and she would get treats! My ex would even eat ice cream, and share the ice-cream off his spoon with Tiffany. Made my heart melt. And every single day, he would get down on the floor and play with her. After a few months he shocked me by saying that of all the dogs he had EVER had, and he had had many, this little Yorkie was his absolute favorite!!! When I left my marriage years later, I gave her to him, and he said it was the nicest thing anyone had ever done for him. So even though he has always had big dogs and didn't really want a small one, he fell completely in love with her. He called me the day she died and he was inconsolable. And he got a another Yorkie soon after. Says he will never live a day in his life without a Yorkie in it. :-) So, even though you have only had big dogs, before, I guarantee you that you will fall madly in love with a Yorkie! ENJOY!!!
