| ![]() She did say though she has had the yorkie for 1 year and been with the bf for 2 years. So the bf was in the picture first, but the yorkie doesn't realize that, with him coming into her house. I wonder though, did she not discuss her getting a dog with the bf? Why not?

| ![]() .....and I certainly would never get rid of a tried and true and loyal and loving friend, to accommodate a man....but that is from years and years of first hand experience dealing with and watching men and relationships rise and fall by the wayside. Trust me, that pup will be devoted to you long after that man hits the highway at a trot! Absolutely, one hundred percent agree, Yorkiemom1...I, too, am "old school" and glad for it... |

| ![]() Hello, I have a 2 year old baby girl that I got from a coworker in March. Lexi is super smart and will potty outside and lets us know when she needs to go as long as we are home. But when we leave for work or she is alone she pees in the same spot EVERY single time. I don't know what to do. Please help! |

Welcome to YT. You have to clean that spot where there is no smell that the pup can smell. There are enzyme cleaners and also vinegar works pretty well. If it is a carpeted area, steam clean it VERY well first, then use the enzyme cleaner as directed or add vinegar to spot and let it dry. Then consider pee pad training her if you are gone too long for her hold it.

| ![]() In the end, the answer is to lose the BF and keep the Yorkie. IF she were my daughter, I would tell her that. If he were my son, I would tell him to just get out of the relationship instead of blaming it on the dog. |

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | ![]() I think it is reasonable to ask and also to be Part of the solution of training this puppy. That is reasonable for the man to ask this to be done. Not reasonable if the first goto was actually to get rid of the dog! The OP made the decision to purchase this puppy and is ultimately and predominately responsible for correcting the problems her lack of training of this dog created. I would not rush to presume or assume that the facts are as stated - what has been omitted? this is only one persons side of the storyline. But for sure she is doing this dog no favours in the way she has raised it. Behavioural issues are one of the prime reasons dogs are surrendered and quite frankly new homes can be hard to find for these dogs.

| ![]() I beg to differ on the main reason for surrender being training. It is because people believe pups are second class beings and disposable. If I had a nickel for every woman who gave up her yorkie for a man or a child, I would have a nice little stash of money. They love, love, love their yorkies until something else comes along to love. NOT saying this is the case with the OP. I have no idea what this person or her boyfriend are about..I can only go by what she said and her boyfriend is sadly not unique. I STILL say that I would dump any person who asked me to get rid of my pups. Again, they are living beings and anyone who makes a suggestion like that probably should never own a pup. There are MANY people who should not own pups. Her boyfriend would not have moved into my home ... I would have known how he felt about my pup and my guess is she knew. Poor pup....I hate these stories so very much. I don't have any feelings for the OP or her boyfriend....it is the pup who ends up with the short end of the stick and it is disgusting that this happens. I will never sadly live to see animals have rights, but I believe one day it may be a reality. The other main issue for surrenders is medical issues that people cannot afford. I have spoken with many, many rescuers and the bottom line is that yorkies honestly are one of if not THE most high maintenance pups out there. And, I am not referring to general maintenance and grooming. It's funny, I was just talking with an all breed rescuer yesterday and she said exactly that. The list of problems with yorkies these days is so long....it gets worse and worse. Why? Popularity...people like Paris Hilton (gag) ... and everyone wants a pocket pup. And, crap breeders are more than willing to fill that demand and sell to anyone with a few bucks in hand. :{ All that indisciminate breeding is ruining the breed ....and putting poor innocent living beings in horrible places. I wish a celebrity would step out with a stuffed animal from Build A Bear and start a new fad.

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | ![]() Linda I did not say main I said prime meaning (at least in my mind) one of the top 4 or 5 reasons dogs are surrendered. Health issues of course are in the top 5 for sure. I don't find my yorkie to be anymore higher maintenance than my Blackies. In fact he is much lower maintenance. So why is a Yorkie high maintenance? What do you mean by that?
