| floppy ear at 5 months kupo had his ears up before he started to teeth. now he's getting his adult canines and since then, one of his ear is floppy... i'm reading that if his ear is not up by 6 months, its unlikely to get back up... he's 5 months now.. but is it true? i did not trim his ears and its been up... i thought all most yorkies's ears flop when they teeth though and that it can last till 8 months.. o.o |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | You should tape them asap if you want them up...there is a thread on how to do this in the Puppy section of the Library.

| I would try trimming the top third of his ears as the hair weighs the ear down. He is still young at 5 months and teething as his permanent ones are coming in. You can also very gently massage the base of his ears to help stimulate them...intermittently.

| @earthangel is trimming absolutely necessary? i was hoping that just taping would work.. i love the look of the full hair on yorkie ears.. only thing i did with his ear was pluking his inner ear hair (at groomers) .. but i may shave the front side of the ear hair though lol. i do massage his ears daily prollly maybe 5 min per session and 5-6x a day.. or more.. he became a lap dog and whenever he sleeps it became a habit for me to massage him.. lol |

| Annie's ears popped up and down until after I had her spayed at 9 months. At that time they removed 3 leftover baby teeth that never fell out and after that her ears perked right back up and stayed up. I never had to tape them or give them any support. The teething can play havoc with their ears. I do keep the hair trimmed on her ears though. Don't worry. I think they'll come back up on their own. You might want to have the vet check for baby teeth after about 8 months. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I don't think it's too late. I would trim them up at least just a bit though, to lighten the load on the ears, it will help more than you know.

| short update: i took kupo to the groomers today to get his ears trimmed. really didn't like the idea of it, but i guess it couldn't have been helped. she took about an inch from the front and back of his ear, and was commenting his ears were really big.. lol i was kinda surprised to see how much hair came off of just one swoop of trim too o.o his ear.. (that was droopy) came kinda 30% up after that trim. lol now i have his inner ear taped... like in ㅗ shape... thicker at bottom, thinner at top.. i tried to put some on outer ear but gauze keeps coming off and he keeps scratching his tape to get it off... ugh lol i just hope this helps |

| Thank you guys. I personally like one up, one down, but I read that those with floppy ears tends to get ear infection more... so i was trying to put that one ear up :/ Watching him now and he seems happy, he's been chasing his short lil tail for 5 min now.. Not sure how he's not dizzy lol His ear seems to be holding up still but it has dropped a lil... I may put tape back on him end of tonight and leave it on for another 3-4 days |
