YT 500 Club Member | milk Thistle Hi everyone. Does anyone give their baby "milk thisle" on a regular basis? Only for health and not for any liver issues. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I've read about milk thistle here and there and have heard it's a great supplement for both humans and dogs. As a supplement junkie myself, I fully support and enable you to supplement . (as long as it's safe, I should say)

| I have been given by my vet but it works out quite expensive , I don't know if there is a human alternative , which might work out cheaper.

I suppose those side affects would go for our babies also. Mine goes in a couple of weeks to be nurtured thought about asking her. Just worry about our babies livers. | |

| I was told to be careful of the additives or the carrier of the solution of milk thistle...not supposed to use the same one for humans that comes from health food stores. I have always gotten mine at PetWellbeing....adjusted carrier for pets. I do not think it was that expensive, considering the amount of money I have spent on OTHER items that probably are not as good for my babies!! Just be sure the Milk Thistle you give your dog is not the same one you give humans, like the one you get at human health food stores...the "carrier" in the solution is different. |

| I was trying to find my information on Milk Thistle and why it should be glycerine based, NOT alcohol based....I have been thru 3 computers since I first collected that information...I did find these notations.... " The herb also comes in a liquid extract, but most human products contain a fair bit of alcohol. If you prefer a liquid preparation, get one specifically intended for use in animals. While some Milk Thistle sold in health stores is/can be alcohol-based and should not be given to dogs, Pet Wellbeing's Milk Thistle is glycerin-based and safe for dogs. Milk Thistle must be glycerin-based to be safe for dogs. Do not give your dog any supplements that contain alcohol" I found these above notations saved on my computer....My vet told me years ago do NOT give the formula from human health food stores because of the alcohol carrier....so I have used the formula specifically designed for dogs from PetWellbeing for many, many years. |

| I was advised to give Daisy milk thistle. My internal medicine vet told me it didn't matter which one. She initially recommended Denamarin or Marin, but Daisy has allergies to some of the ingredients. I ended up buying one on Amazon, it's called Nature's Answer and it has a glycerin base. I dose Daisy at 50mg/kg which is a higher dose than most. The problem is I forget to give it to her half the time. It hasn't done anything for her liver (good or bad) as she's had the same liver enzyme profile for the past 9 or so of her 15 years of life.
