YT 500 Club Member | Retained canines My Ruger is 5 months. I noticed his bottom canines are coming in behind baby ones. I plan on nurturing him the 1st of August. Is this too long to wait? So far his other teeth have came in great. Thanks |

| Get them both done at the same time. No reason to put him under twice.

| I would go ahead and have both done pretty soon. Retained baby teeth can mess up the alignment of the teeth if left to long.

| They are the same ones that have come in double on my baby Elliot. She is now 6 months old. I put off spaying her until after she is finished teething so I can have any teeth taken out that need to be at the same time. I am going to wait a couple more months as Duncan seems to be almost done teething now at 8 months.

| I called my vet to talk to them and asked their opinion and they told me that as long as I got her in there to be spayed before she was 9 months old, I should be pretty safe. I decided to take her in at 8 months so that I am not waiting until the latest time they said to do so.

| I waited until 7-8 months for the spay to give the retained canines (upper and lower) time to fall out on their own. The lower ones eventually did. She has a longer jaw, and the upper ones weren't even crowded and weren't budging, so I figured they weren't going to come out naturally and went ahead with the spay then. I think you are OK to wait a bit more.

| Yep, it's not common but it can happen. The risk is small but it IS there.

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | I had to wait until Bonnie was 8 months because the when I took her in at 7 months, she had an elevated ALT level. When I brought her back, she was fine. She had 4 baby teeth removed at the same time. Two of them were canines. The vet said it was possible that she might go into heat during the wait but because of her blood work, it was much better to wait and take the chance. |

YT 500 Club Member | Hey my little Ruger is a boy. No chance he will go into heat befor nurturing Ha! He's 5 months, would August be too long to get those baby cainins out. I sure don't want to mess up his adult teeth. |

| I would think August is fine. I waited until 6 months with my male and 8 months with my female and they are both happy, healthy, well adjusted pups. You never know, some of those teeth might fall out before the dental.
