| Eye Crusties My baby boy Gizmo seems to have eye discharge that builds up quickly over time. Usually I clean it during bath time with his conditioner. I was wondering if anyone else experiences this with their fur babys. The eye discharge seems to harden onto the fur/hair near the eye. What is the best way to clean this inbetween bath times that won't hurt or make him uncomfortable? Also, is their a certain product any of you recommend for this. I look forward to reading some solutions and appreciate your feedback! |

| I have to clear Winnies eyes every day. Warm wet cotton ball and a tiny comb.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Hi and welcome to YT! Is your kiddo a pup? If so, they may tear more as pups bc of teething. You want to look out for greenish discharge or if it's overly smelly, as this can indicate an eye infection...for that, you'd need a vet. When my kiddos have hard crusties, I turn on the warm water and run a small soft toothbrush under the water - I then dip it in the water and comb it over the area, getting more water as I go, and eventually all the goo comes off softly and without pulling.

| They actually make safe eye wipes for this. I personally just use a dampened warm washcloth without soap, and it works just fine. Someone told me to try angel eyes, but I dont really like the idea of giving something internal for this minor issue. I agree that with Sunni, it was much worse during teething. Its hardly an issue at all now. |

| I wipe their eyes twice a day. Magnus's eye boogers are crusty so I can just use my hands to pull it out but Zoey's is gooey so I use the mustache comb to get the goo out. I used to use a flea comb but the mustache comb is SO MUCH BETTER! It's great for combing out their face too! This is where I got it... toplinepet.com The owner is a member of YT (mimimomo). | Mine get crusty eyes too and I have to clean them once a day. A friend of mine that has a white Maltese suggested using Bausch and Lomb Sensitive Eyes Plus Saline Solution. I squirt some on each corner of the eye on the crusty part and let it sit for about 15 seconds. I then use a warm wash cloth to wipe the crusty stuff away. I was using plain warm water but then realized I have a water softener and the water was probably stinging their eyes because of the salt content. I found this out because I got some water in my eyes taking a shower one time and it stung my eyes.

We start with a wet cotton ball to soften any boogies. If there is staining, the hair has to grow out completely without any further staining. I finally got rid of Teddy's stains, and now Max has them. Started with spring allergies. We are missing our favorite facial shampoo too. Need to order some more Spa Fresh Facial Cleaner. Jenny at toplinepet.com also has a couple of great facial cleansers and she offers a YT member discount.

| I use some eye pads I got from I think Drs. Foster and Smith. They worked great for my Cairn an now I use them daily on my yorkie pup, He is not keen on anything that even resembles a brush or comb going anywhere near his body, let alone his face. The little round pads can be wrapped around your finger tip to wipe away any crusties or grime. |

| Since I switched to making a fresh organic chicken every week instead of using frozen one, Dinky's eye tearing has stopped cold! I have known other who think corn fed chicken could be the culprit sometimes. |

| I have to clean Loki's eyes daily- He just got fully groomed yesterday, and today woke up with tons of crust. Keep on it daily so it doesn't harden- if it hardens, then clean with warm water to loosen then gently pull. |

| I clean my baby's face with a simple warm water (on a micro-fiber finger cloth) and some combing once I get her face area soaked decently enough for the eye-boogers to loosen. I then add a drop of coconut oil to the beard to help it be less tangly.

| I clean my girls' eye area once to twice a day using a warm wet wash cloth gently, then pick out the dry crusty stuff. The tiny comb that I bought from Topline Pet works great after that around this area.

| Eye Gunk Don't bother with Angel Eyes it doesn't work. Yorkie's are not the only small dogs to have this problem. It's best to just use a warm washcloth and if you do it daily it shouldn't be too much trouble. |

| I like the cotton ball idea guys that's smart! I usually get a wet rag and wipe them off every day cuz his are gooey but he's getting groomed so his face hair will be finally away from the eye area!

| I just dampen a washcloth with warm water and then rub this on the corner of his eyes and then run an eyelash comb from the corner of his eye down through his beard til the boogies are gone! I have to do this once a day. |
