| Anyone Hear of Minipups.ca? Like the Title says, they are located in Brampton/Mississauga, has anyone ever heard of these guys? They offer 5 year guarantee on all their puppies and claim to get them from reputable breeders. I am looking to buy a puppy from them or Petsmart, I am hesitant on adopting due to the higher risk of getting an unhealthy dog. What do you guys think? Thanks in advance! |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Hi and welcome to YT ! Hope you do find your perfect pup. To me, this sounds like a puppy broker and if they are, I'd really steer very clear of them. Will they tell you who their "breeders" are? Here are some threads to read for potential new yorkie parents too: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...ent-guide.html

| Reputable breeders don't sell there puppies to anyone else to find homes for them. That site appears to be a broker site and generally puppy mills and byb sell to brokers. Reputable breeders also won't use the word teacup. I personally would not buy from them. I got my yorkie from a broker who got there puppies from puppy mills and she has had many many issues.

| And let me tell you from personal experience, DO NOT buy a dog from a pet store. Find a breeder you can trust, get your name on a list for a puppy and wait for your bundle of joy to be born and spend the first 3 months of his or her life with momma and his siblings. |

| I agree with whats been said so far, and would like to add, that its a common misconception about adopting rescue dogs. A lot of times, especially now a days, what you find in rescues are an awful lot of purebred dogs that have been abandoned for a variety of reasons. No matter where you get your puppy there will be health risks involved. Getting from backyard breeder or puppy mill, will carry just as much of a chance of poor bred dog as you'll find at the rescue. You will find plenty of us here that have our puppies from these places and can tell you plenty of stories about what awful conditions these little ones come from and the number of health issues involved. Pet stores buy from puppy mills...you would do better adopting then buying from a Pet store. If you want a puppy that is as genetically healthy as possible, you need to do your homework and find a well known ethical breeder with refrences. There will usually be a waiting list and a deposit required..but only then can you have some confidence in getting a healthy puppy with a health guarantee. |

| Yorkies are not a rare breed, they are one of the most popular breeds around because of their size and compatibility with modern lifestyles and allergies. You can certainly find a solid breeder relative to your location who will be able to let you meet the parents and fill you in on the history. These guarantees are useless because 9 times out of 10 if your dog gets sick you will move heaven and earth to keep him alive and healthy and with you. Many guarantees require you to surrender the dog, put the dog down or the dog has to die in order to get a refund or replacement. Do the Petsmarts in your area sell puppies? ours only have a couple of adoption cats here or there, that's odd. If they do, that's not a good idea, their pups would probably come from mills, wholesellers or brokers too. |

| Maybe use the Canadian equivalent of the AKC to locate a reputable breeder: CKC | Purebred Puppies, Dog Competitions, Show Dog Events | CKC been around since 1888 http://www.ckc.ca/Choosing-a-Dog/Pup...&breedcode=YRT Click that second link, click the province tab and select Ontario.... lots of Canadian Kennel Club recognized breeders in Ontario. | Also, it's probably best to refer to the Canadian Kennel Club with their full name... There's somethin about a "CKC" registering a chair or table as a pure bred dog... but that was some derelict outfit down here in the states not the Canadian Kennel Club. |
