Something about this story doesn't seem right. Although it would be near impossible to smuggle dogs on commercial airliners, private jets hardly go in and out of countries without being subjected to security/customs. I flew with a Major League Baseball team in 2000 to Canada and we had to go through customs both ways, have our passports and papers declaring if we were bring anything in.

I always wonder why these celebrities who travel internationally so often want to bring pets with them.

with a private jet the passengers and (sometimes)luggage goes through customs in a terminal the jet is self can be but not often boarded to be searched the the pups could have been in a carrier in the plane and then later on just taken off with the crew or something like that

I think if I was a filthy rich, cocky, celeb, who is very accustomed to having all the "common people"vow and swoon and get stuck on star struck stupid, flying around in my own jet....although it is a rather small, cheap, less impressive model.....and some country told me "shame on you for bringing in your little dogs....now please be a good boy and return them to the USA", I would probably smirk, look over the top of my glasses, and "Yes......well.....I will get to it......" But if I had someone tell me, "Get those dogs out of this country and get it done in 72 hours or less, or we will confiscate them and euthanize them without further ado", I may get my ass in gear and get those pups back to the USA, on my private jet, immediately, perhaps guessing from the tone of their threat, they meant business.....and if that smug, nose high attitude dame he is married to can get her nose out of the clouds long enough to realize they do NOT kiss A$$ down there and will act on their threat, SHE can accompany them back to the States.
Just like Beiber (sp??) took his pet monkey to Europe (?? Germany ??) and then left it in quarantine and returned to the States/Canada, without his little monkey, and I am not sure what ever happened to it.....

I'll bet that's exactly what they do. They just put the dogs in carriers(probably sedated so they would be quiet until they get out of the airport) and one of the entourage just carries them off the plane with other personal luggage & traveling equipment that never feels a customs official's glance.

France already has a rabies problem so there is no need to be as strict about it...

I am happy that some Australians took the initiative to call out the guy who threatened to kill the dogs. Not only because it would be inhumane, but because it made Australia look really stupid...

Depp, if he knowingly 'smuggled' in the dogs, was the only stupid one here and hopefully he's learned his lesson!

It looks like Johnny Depp's dogs are back on their way to the US:

I wonder how much money Australia is making because a movie is being made there? I'll bet Jonny doesn't want to make another film there. Personally, I think Australia's prime minister could have handled this heck of a lot better.

I have issues with people that deliberately break the law......especially just because they think they are "important" or "special" or "rich" enough they can get away with it. Other countries around the world are not as star struck as we are here, and they have strict rules/laws about smuggling plants, food, or animals into the country, and they enforce their laws. Australia has done just fine before Depp arrived on scene with his movie crew, and I bet they will do just fine if he gets mad because he had to follow the laws like the common folk and decides to never go back! I am glad his little dogs are returning to the States! Wonder if they will have to go through quarantine upon entering the USA customs??!!

I believe Australia has one of the toughest biosecurity laws because they do not want any foreign plants, animals, etc to be brought in and upset their ecosystem. They have a system that has taken millions of years to develop and is quite unique. We have seen it happen in other places. A beetle gets introduced to an area and all the trees start dying. The sea lampreys are killing the indigenous fish in the great lakes. I don't blame Australia for having tough import laws. I do blame Depp for thinking he is above the law.

I don't think you can assume he deliberately broke the law. Just because he is rich, he shouldn't be found guilty. Not everyone is familiar with the laws governing transport of pets from country to country.

I don't really blame Australia either. I wish the US was this strict to be honest. I hope Australia is as strict about their animal exports. I am pretty sure the deadliest of the deadliest creatures all live there! (I've been watching way too much Nat Geo)

I can't imagine anyone traveling with dogs who would not check with the destination country first to see (1) if dogs are even allowed to travel there, and (2) what the regulations are. It's just common sense. I'm sure that Johnny Depp knew better, and just thought he could get away with it. It's not like he's never traveled anywhere else before.

England quarantine is six months so they are tough here but I can't imagine threatening a dogs life on the basis of their ignorant owner.

Hope it's all resolved now...phew!

Honestly, I can see how this can happen. Even some states in the US require health certificates when crossing state lines, but I am guessing many people do not know this and take for granted they don't need anything special for their pet when traveling within our own borders.
