| How Much Should You Pay For Teeth Cleaning? First post here. I am having my Yorkie's teeth cleaned. My vet, who to date has been very professional and kind, has quoted me at one thousand dollars. The quote lists a lot of extras as if all of his teeth will be pulled -- I assume it is a worst case scenario quote and I'm seeking clarification. A lot of dog owners are telling me they only spend 150-200 for a cleaning. Having said the above, I would like to know what you all pay to have your Yorkie's teeth cleaned. Also, do you think the procedure of teeth cleaning (i.e. putting the dog under) is dangerous? I have heard mixed reviews, however, the alternative to not having professional cleanings, especially when my dog wont let me brush his teeth, is to eventually have him put to sleep anyways for removal of teeth. I should note that my dog is adopted so I never had a chance to train him correctly as far as brushing. If you have tips, I would appreciate them. |

| I paid around $650-700 in November to have my yorkie neutered and a dental. He also had three extractions. My vet likes to pull the two very back molars because she says they often cause problems later, and he also had a little front tooth that the roots did not grow in properly on. The price also included pre-anesthesia blood work, dental exrays and pain meds. As far as the anesthesia/dental work being dangerous, I can tell you for sure that it is more dangerous to not do it. Small dogs have tiny and crowded mouths and are prone to cavaties and teeth problems, which can cause all kinds of health issues down the road. It is far better to stay on top of the teeth and dental work than let it get bad and then try to correct a bunch of problems. $1000 seems a bit high (and I thought my vet was expensive!) but if your dog needs a lot of extractions that would bring the price up. Good luck! I'm sure your pup will be fine during the dental, and they recover quick! Diana |

| Wow...even a better case for brushing her teeth! How often are we supposed to do it? I do it once a day, but should it be twice? |

| I paid around $600 but it's going to be different in different areas. As long as you get the pre surgery blood work anesthesia is very safe. There are many dogs who get them done yearly.

| Well brushing helps but at the end of the day it comes down to genetics.

| I paid about $625 for Winston with no extractions. That included X-rays. Teeth should be brushed once a day, but twice is even better!

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | This is a pet peeve of mine. Price varies dramatically, both regionally and locally. My estimate was a range from 550 to 1,100. When I asked why such a wide range, she said, Oh, we have to do that. Higher range is just for a lot of extractions and your pup's teeth don't look too bad. Well, evidently she was wrong, because they ended up pulling 7 or 8 teeth and charging me 1,100. I know it's important and she's due for another cleaning, but, for crying out loud, is it really that tough to pull 7 or 8 loose Yorkie teeth?

| I have Banfield wellness for both M/Z. Includes 2 complete check ups a year, free office visits, vaccines, etc. There are two plans and one includes dental. I think it's bit over $500. But like Lovetodream said, I think it really depends on your location. |

| Hmmm, I had them pull my baby's baby teeth when she was getting fixed (and granted I think there was some baby teeth in the very back that didn't get pulled at the time cause she lost one of them not too long ago ^^; She's also not much of a back teeth chewer, so she got pretty white fronts but her back teeth as a little tarter-ish ^^;; I get the groomers to clean her teeth when I cannot, but will be getting her teeth cleaned sometime this year. Our old jack russel had a cleaning and polish recently and that in itself was $65, but didn't include the bloodwork, anesthesia and a couple of removals (though she mainly when in to have masses removed). So I'd say it would've have been somewhere between $125-$200, give or take.

| I am giving Leba III a try got it from costco.ca , some people say it upsets there yorkies tummy but Bella seem to be just fine with it so we will see if it keeps us away for the vets office. I m sure the price of dental here in Ontario is out of this world. |

| Brushing their teeth everyday is the best. But really brushing them not just putting a tooth brush in there mouth. I had a dog whos dam and sire had horrible teeth. Mine the Vet said it was the best teeth he's ever seen on a Yorkie. Brush them like you would yours. If you do it from day one they will let you |

| Price seems to vary by location . We are in Maine . Oscar had a Dental Cleaning in March . We paid $160.00 which included blood work . Every morning after breakfast he gets an Ora Dent Enzymatic Chew , at night after dinner I brush his teeth with CET Enzymatic Tartar Control Toothpaste . . It is beef flavored , he loves it |

| I took my oldest dog to the vet last night. She has really bad teeth. Last year, when she had her cleaning, they had to extract 9 of them. The vet said she will need her teeth cleaned in 6 - 8 months as the tartar is again building up. They gave me an estimate last night of $650 for the cleaning, the blood work (without a heartworm test since she had that last night), x-rays, anesthesia, and 2 extractions.
