I paid around $650-700 in November to have my yorkie neutered and a dental. He also had three extractions. My vet likes to pull the two very back molars because she says they often cause problems later, and he also had a little front tooth that the roots did not grow in properly on. The price also included pre-anesthesia blood work, dental exrays and pain meds.

As far as the anesthesia/dental work being dangerous, I can tell you for sure that it is more dangerous to not do it. Small dogs have tiny and crowded mouths and are prone to cavaties and teeth problems, which can cause all kinds of health issues down the road. It is far better to stay on top of the teeth and dental work than let it get bad and then try to correct a bunch of problems. $1000 seems a bit high (and I thought my vet was expensive!) but if your dog needs a lot of extractions that would bring the price up.

Good luck! I'm sure your pup will be fine during the dental, and they recover quick!
