| Potty training is going to be the death of me I take him out and he goes. As soon as we get back in he goes again. And I have him in a small bathroom with a gate so the door doesn't have to be closed. He pees right next to the pad. Are there different pads or are they all the same? Thanks |

| I know how you feel! I had the same problem with Gizmo a few months back. Then I asked my vet about it, and he told me that it has alot to do with being the "alpha male" I know that sounds wierd. But in the doggie world, there is always one dog who eats first, sits the highest, does everything first. So hear is what he told me to do, when you are going to take him out to pee, put him on a leash. When you get to the front door stop and make him sit there, then you walk out the door first, then you tell him to come when you are already through the door. When you are inside and say you are sitting on the couch or something, always make sure he is lower to the ground than you, (don't let him on the back of the couch, or by your shoulders, etc. He also told me just to not let him up on the couch, to make him lay on the floor, but I have found that Gizmo is fine with knowing who is the boss, as long as I sit higher than him. Your whole goal is to establish dominance. But at the same time you have to remember that if he is not an adult yet, that he can still have accidents. And about the pee pad, we have them for gizmo, and if he pee's on one just a little, you have to put a fresh one down because he won't go on it twice. Also, some of the pee pads have special scent on them to attract them to pee just on the pad. But when you go outside just make sure you walk out first, keep him on the leash, and use lots of praise when he does good. I hope that this has been of some help to you. If there is anything I can do to help just let me know.

| Sometimes they KNOW that they are doing something they shouldent and just do it anyway..this is my case Iv come to realise that some yokries are just plain stubborn and do what they want when they want no matter what we do to try and change things.Lady is 2 years old and if we dont put her in the bathroom and close the door, she will go anywhere! We have to shut her in there every few hours and until we can see that shes been to the toilet,we dont let her out,and even this doesnt work sometimes. Yesturday we put her in the bathroom with a clean pad (as usual) and every now and again we checked on her to see if shed been to the toilet.3 hours passed and she still hadent done anything so out of pity we let her out.She came trotting into the living room and peed next to the couch!!! After 3 hours sitting NEXT to a pad! I wouldent have minded if she had even peed on the bathroom floor, but NOOOOOOO She does this ALOT and after all we have done and tried, she just wont do as she is supposed to.The worst thing is,she KNOWS shes being bad because after she pees or poops on the floor, she runs like her butt is on fire and hides somewhere! Right now we just clean up after her because if she hasnt chenaged in almost 2 years,I doubt sheŽll suddenly do it now |

| On another thread, I wrote about "tethering" Missy to me by her leash. She gets no more freedom even in the kitchen as she peepees in their for too many reasons when we aren't there with her. Keeping her by my side on a pad is working great. We're trying to "stretch" her bladder and it seems to be working. She still won't "speak" to go out. She was abusing the bells too much and the trainer said "tethering" her to me was greattttt!
