| New here:) questions about kenne cough Hi everyone! I have a sweet male yorkie named Finn. He was born 9/15/14 and at almost 5 months he's a big 2lbs! He has quickly become my best friend! He was vaccinated his first round for kennel cough 2/24. He Started sneezing randomly and now has a horrible violent cough. My boyfriend thought it was just from using tarts and carpet freshener. I did research and I am for sure it's kennel cough. I emailed his vet to hopefully get him back in tomorrow. Did anyone else's baby get kennel cough after they were vaccinated? How was it treated and how long did it last? Thanks in advance for replies |

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | I have an entire thread about this and yes, many people have reported their puppy getting kennel cough from the vaccine. The vet will deny it but you should take your puppy to the vet for antibiotics. It takes a while for it to get better. I don't know how to put in the link to my old thread but do a search on vaccines and kennel cough. It should pop up. |

| My pup had kennel cough, not from the vaccine mind you (I have opted out of vaccinating her against it for fear she gets it again) for about 12 weeks in total! She was so poorly. Some dogs get over it in 3 weeks though. We had all different types of antibiotics and nothing really helped it just had to run it's course. If the coughing is really bad some honey will soothe their throat, and steaming (in the bathroom with shower on jot) for about 15 mins at a time helped Poppy. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Yes, they can actually get kennel cough from the vaccine itself...in puppies, this is particularly dangerous bc it can proceed to pneumonia...so keep a close eye on things. You may want a cough suppressant from the vet, btw. I don't allow the vet to give my kiddos this vaccine, since it's not a core vaccine. I only get the core vaccines: Distemper, Parvo, Rabies.

YT 1000 Club Member | I am glad I am seeing this thread. Thank you for sharing that and starting this discussion. I don't think I will get that vaccine for our new puppy either. It will not be boarded at a facility that it might get that from as it will be at home or with us. I was thinking about only getting the Parvo, distemper and Rabies for the new baby when the time comes.

| Thanks for posting this. I was thinking of getting my soon-to-be adopted 3 year old vaccinated against kennel cough. Even though it's not a core vaccine, here in chicago, there has been an epidemic of kennel cough. I'm a little bit scared that she'll get it, especially since she'll might be boarding next month (traveling to London for a week). |

| My little Cooper got the Bordatella where they give it to them through their nose! The vet said it is good if they are going to be around a lot of other dogs, boarding, the groomers etc.... He never got sick from it and has done good since having it! |

| Duncan got a slight case of kennel cough when he got the bordetella (sp) vaccine (the nasal one). They put him on a round of antibiotics but he was better in a matter of days. I just got Elliot her vaccine last night. I am hoping she doesn't get kennel cough. The reason I did was because when I took Duncan to the groomers the first time, she insisted he have it.
