YT 1000 Club Member | Yorkie Quirks? I have had my 9 year old Yorkie for 6 weeks. I got him very unexpectedly, very suddenly. I expected a 9 year old dog to come with some quirks/strange habits. Teek is extremely intelligent. When his water dish is empty he paws at it to get my attention. I have an 80 lb dog as well and he gets fed twice a day and he eats all his food at each setting. The Yorkie is fed in a separate location and has food available all day. All day long Teek paws at the other dog's dish because it is empty. Is this to tell me that his pal needs food? Is he just doing it because it is an empty dish? Teek knows where his food is in the other room and eats it regularly throughout the day, so I don't think he is telling me he is hungry. I have thought about just putting the other dish up somewhere between feedings, but I am still trying to figure this behavior out. It only started a few days ago, about the same time the bigger dog let Teek sneak into his dish while he was eating from it and steal a piece of his food. I think they are becoming good buddies. Now Teek tells me 20 times a day that the other dish is empty. I don't know if it is a quirk (This guy has a few of them) or if he actually wants something. He kept making me follow him into the kitchen all weekend so he could show me that the food dish was empty. He does other strange things. He does not like to walk on grass and would rather poop on the sidewalk than go in the grass. He likes to walk right on the edge of the sidewalk where I worry he will fall into the road. He is a strange one, but we love him and think he is wonderful even with his silly quirks.

| That's a Yorkie for ya. Mostly every pet I owned had quirks. But isn't that what makes them so endearing. Every morning Dutch and I have a routine. If you deviate from that routine just a little bit, she gets discombobulated. She ends up just standing there until you get back to the routine. That's just one of many. Isn't it great? Those quirks are the things that keep you smiling all day. |

YT 1000 Club Member | He is a character! He is so much fun to have around. I take him nearly everywhere I go. As a stay at home mom that isn't too difficult. When I do have to go somewhere I can plan most things when someone will be home so he is still not alone, just without his mommy. I only work a little... I do odd jobs for people. I clean a few of my friend's parents houses. I mow a few yards. I typically work 1-3 half days in the colder months and then about 1-2 half days a week during the warmer months, most so in the summer. I have teenage kids so in the summer they will be able to keep Teek with them while I am working. He has only had to deal with being home for 2 days of me working (4 hours each day). I don't think that is bad at all. Other than that I am not typically gone more than an hour at a time. He seems happy and well adjusted. I love the little bear attack thing he does with me. We have so much fun playing.

YT 1000 Club Member | Upside down sleeper So Teek is sitting on me. Then he just flops over onto his bed. Only his head made it to his bed. My teenage daughter got her ipad and took his picture. He was like this for 5 minutes before he decided it wasn't as comfy as he thought. He is a goofball clown that I took home!

| Teek is one smart lil boy. One of my girls use to walk on on the edge of the sidewalk also lol, silly lil critters. I have my little rescue boy14 months and I am still finding new things about him. Everyday is like a new adventure with him. Enjoy discovering who teek is, he is a lucky boy to have found a loving momma. Thank you for rescuing.

YT 1000 Club Member | I had to look at the picture like 10 times before I could look at it and not LOL! He is such a clown. He stole my heart by the first day I had him and then he just kept stealing it more. The first week he had no idea what was going on. He learned to trust me and everything. He would freak out when I would pick him up and here I have wanted a cute little dog like this for years and I finally have one so I would just scoop him up and snuggle him and he would look at me like "what the heck are you doing?" The 2nd week he was calm when I would pick him up, I guess he realized that I wasn't going to drop him. The 3rd week he actually snuggled me back and now he absolutely loves to be snuggled. I can take him places and he will sit on my arm for an hour or more while we walk around and be totally content. He is just awesome! I can't imagine how I ever lived without him.

| Teek is a character and obviously a very smart boy. Max was like Teek when he was a pup -- he wouldn't walk in the grass for his first year. I loved it because Max stayed clean. Then we brought home his brother Teddy, who goes anywhere. Teddy taught Max to go in the grass. Quirks are what make Yorkies so much fun.

| Awwwww! He is adorable. Yes, they have quirks. Mine get very upset and start pacing, staring and grumblimg if we don't go to bed at 11. Be happy he just paws at the bowl. A dog we previously had used to pick up the bowl and throw it. Was he a city dog before you got him? My daughter has two Cavs and she lived in a townhouse. Dogs were not allowed on the grass of the property. So she had to walk them on the road and pick up after them there. When she brings them here to play with mine, they pee and poop on our patio and deck, rather than in the grass. He sounds like he is adjusting well.

YT 1000 Club Member | He was in town and he had grass there. I don't know what his deal is here with grass. I just let him go on the sidewalk and I clean it up. Not a big deal really. I carry little bags in all my coats and keep some in my car too. They are great for emergency trash bags in the car as well as needing to clean up after the dog. I think he went in the house there because they were never home. He went from seeing people a few times a day who let him outside to having a stay at home mommy who only works a few half days a month. When I get into my "busy" season this summer I will work a few half days a week, but he will have my teenagers home with him. The only time he would be alone is the last few weeks of school and the first few weeks of school next fall. I am sure he will survive those just fine as I will only work 1-3 half days a week even then. I only work 2-4 hours at a time. He is hardly ever crated because I am at home, or he goes with me. I do crate him though because I believe he should be able to be crated. He gets crated in the morning when I take the kids to school because mornings are so hectic I just can't take him with me to take them to school. That is maybe 20 minutes he is in his crate Monday-Friday. Then about twice a month he is crated for about 4 hours while I work. Occasionally he is crated for an hour while I go shopping once a week or less. The rest of the time he is with me (he goes almost everywhere with me) or he is home with one of my kids or my husband. He loves to go with me in the afternoon to pick up the kids! I love him though, quirks and all! He is curled up against me right now, which is his favorite spot to be. I don't think he knew what "the good life" was until he met me. He would look at me so funny when I would hold him and kiss his neck and tell him I loved him. Now he just snuggles against me when I do that. His is the first face I see every morning. My husband is gone to work before I ever think about stirring. Teek is such a joy to wake up with. He is always in a good mood. He just gets up and stretches. I just can't imagine how I managed to live all these years without a dog like this.

| Apparently, in Teek's world, no doggie food dish should ever be empty! :-) |
