Is my yorkie real?

My first Yorkie weighed 4 pounds female. My male Yorkie I have now weighs 9 pounds.

He is so cute and he looks like a pure breed Yorkie to me.

If your vet really said that, then, dump your vet, his papers must be from a cracker jack box! LOL AKC even has the standard up to 7 lbs... think I've heard of 100% yorkies above 26 pounds...

Well we only have one vet in our area and that's him! I believe there's also another vet whom I met when he was out one day and she provided more info such as him missing his balls lol the other vet never pointed that out he showed me how to restrain and correct biting and then made me leave to go pay while he did the pups shots!

I think your vet's comment is worthy of a thread all in it's own. My opinion is not as knowledgeable as others on here pertaining to vets, but, in my opinion is if your vet doesn't know even basic info about the yorkie breed, he shouldn't be your yorkie's primary care provider. You should seek others' advice. I think it is very important to have a vet knowledgeable in health issues that a yorkie is prone to prior to a problem with your pup actually popping up. Driving 50 miles or more is worth getting a knowledgeable vet when/if an emergency arises.

I had to giggle on this one... my best friend has a FEMALE Great Dane named Sally, I can clearly look at her and see girlie parts her AKC papers say FEMALE.... well she dropped her off to get fixed on the way to work one day and her husband calls later that day and says I am not sure what the vet's office is trying to explain to me but they say they did not remove her uterus because they could not find one BUT they did remove her testicles... come to find out she is both Sally and Sal lol

Haha that's so funny! Teddy has his peepee and the vet flips him and goes "is he already neutered?!" Now my dad says we have to rename him Tammy as a joke!

Looks all yorkie to me too.

He looks 100% pure adorable Yorkie. Yes they can vary in size, usually 4-7 lbs. but many are bigger or smaller than that. Coat can be cottony or silky and color starts out black and tan, then most get lighter.

I see a purebred adorable yorkie. 10 pounds may not be the "standard" but is also not unusual.

Even if she/ he is Sally or Sal she is still a sweetie with my daughter

You might want to have you vet check out the yorkie standard. It's not possible for a vet to know the standard of every breed of dog but he should know better then to say they don't get over a certain weight.

Being bigger dosen't mean fat. Jackson one of the larger yorkies on her is I think 16 pounds or so and he is the fittest dog ever.

Vets can't know every breed and every standard. Sometimes it's much longer then 50 miles to the nearest town.
