YT 500 Club Member | Vets Opinion So I went to the vet and he thinks Sammie has some kinda of acid reflux. Showed him this video.http://youtu.be/lN1L1pXdfZM and told him he always has done that hack a few times a day from day one (4 months old) now 10 months old. He said combination of the hack and then looking for grass and licking his lips and he has always spit up yellow bile since I had him. He thinks when he is playing rough and getting excited the acid might creep up and make him hack. he thinks all that together = acid reflux. The congestion after he has an episode could be from acid backing up into his noise. So he is on an acid pill and we will see if that helps. Wanted to post it in case anyone else has these problems with there dog it might be acid reflux. |

| We had a 24 hour episode with Ali like this, I seriously wondered if she had a hairball. She wanted OUT so she could eat grass all day. I waited it out since she was still eating etc. and it went away. I think the chew I gave her got a small piece logged or irritated her esophagus. I threw out the chews. I hope the acid reflux med does the trick, if it doesn't think about what the pup eats and try something smaller or softer for a while. Good luck! |

YT 500 Club Member | Thanks Shelby. Sammie eats everything everyday since I had him. I think that has something to do with the hack too. I do notice the hack shows up more after a day for chewing toys, raw hide, sticks, paper. Days he is more calm and has not gotten into anything he does not hack. The other day he was eating a deer hoove and swollowed a piece and then the hacking began and he ran outside for his grass and I threw it out. Someone told me when she took her dog off dry food the hacking stopped. |

| My beloved Ashley, who had a collapsing trachea, had acid reflux from what we observed. When Ashley was sixteen, my husband suspected her increased coughing could have been caused from this. I talked to my vet after giving her Pepcid for this, and we told him we thought Ashley coughed less when she took it. He had told us to use Pepcid in the past for other stomach ailments, but it wasn't some she used every day. He told us that Pepcid would not harm her. She was on it for approximately a year. I hope this is the cause of Sammie's cough and that you are able to find ways to control it.
