Scared.. Hello, First of all I would like to state that I am new to this form. I have a 11 month Yorkie and his the love of my life. I love him so much. We spoil him rotten, and I swear his so dramatic. lol However I noticed last Sunday that my baby was limping. I called this vet and made an apt for him. The soonest they could get him in was on Tuesday. She left his left leg, and said she fears its not his leg, but his HIP. I am flipping out and crying at this time, as I have heard of painful stories of hip dysplasia on dogs. But she was kind of shocked because his so young (11months) and its not common with small dogs. He has a x-ray today. I should have his final diagones today. I am sitting here waiting for them to call me in. My heart is pounding, my stomach is turning. On the bright side. I bought him pet insurance, when I first got him 10 months ago.. I have the bronze policy which means I pay 200 deductible, with a 10% reminder balance. I called them today, and they were very happy to get on his Per-approval paperwork. Please please pray for my baby. |
Well, it sounds like he's in good hands. It's great that you got pet insurance, and that should save you a ton of money in the long run with your little guy. Let us know how everything goes today! |

I have petplan. He got all his medical work up done, and certificate of health giving him a clear bill of health with no per-condiition issues. I am having my attorney friend do all of his pre-authorization paperwork (so they know I am not playing games). Please please pray. I hope shes wrong, and its a sprain, or growing pains. I cant imagine him in pain. His been on pain meds since Tuesday.. |
Hugs to you. I know it is so worrisome when something is wrong with our dogs. There is a hip disorder called Leggs Calves Perthes - or avascular necrosis of the femoral head. It might just be what is going on with your boy, or of course Hip Dysplasia. The good news is, the toy breeds usually do well with hip surgery! If it is either one, I would advise an orthopaedic surgeon to do the surgery. And of course pre-op blood work. |
Oh my good to know :) I have no were to turn. My whole family is devastated right now. all of this sadden, and we don't even know what is wrong with my little Loki. I am crying as I type this. |
I will fight for my little boy.. My sweet pea. |
Welcome to YT, sorry your you are going through this with such a young baby. I will keep your little boy in my thoughts and prayers for positive report. (((HUGS))) |

Oh (((Hugs to you and your family))). Just try to wait to see the diagnosis. And then go to the specialist to confirm. The good news is that you have pet insurance and that will be very helpful to defray any surgery costs. Here is a link to the College of Board Certified Veterinary Surgeons: https://www.acvs.org/ |
Thank you so much for the link. I am trying to call my vet to see if they're done- I am hold. Reading this link now. God bless you all. |
I'm glad to read that you have pet insurance in place already. Hoping for positive news from the vet. |
Just got a hold of my docs office. They said they will call me back in 10-15 minutes.. REALLY---- its 2:39 right now, and I can't wait anymore.. I feel very nauseous. My heart is beating. I think I am about to have a heart attack.. why can't they just talk to me now. sorry I am panicking. my husband won't even talk to me about this anymore. He states I am stressing him out. Which I know I am. HAPPY new years to me I guess. |
Still waiting for them to call me. How long does it take to do a x-ray.. gees his be there since 7:30am.. urgh. |
I am sorry your baby Loki is having problems. Hopefully it will get sorted out quickly so he has no more pain. Congratulations on having this sweet boy in your life and family, and welcome to YT! Hugs |
Praying you receive good news. If your baby does require surgery, please know that many members here have been through it and their pups are doing very well. You will have everyone's support. Very happy to hear you have insurance. |
Well, I am still waiting, but my husband just got home, and we are going to go collect our baby.. They better be done, as his been there since 7:30am. I pray all goes well, and I will touch bases and post a pic of my little devil.. |
Nothing is wrong with my baby.. His xray looks great.. Praise god.. Loves to all |
Wonderfull news indeed! Do you have him home in your arms now? |
I am leaving work now.. But I am going to squeeze him to who knows what... I am going to upload a pic of my little bear. |
cant wait to see some pics!! |
Do they no why he was limping? |
Oh that is so absolutely wonderful!!! I am so happy he is okay. I have seen a couple of mine limp, but it was very temporary. One hurt a paw jumping against the kitchen cabinet, hitting the door pull. The other hurt the paw jumping in a shopping cart on the 'egg crate' structure, and now I always put a memory foam mat in any cart they ride in so no more toes slip into the holes and cause pain. I would love to see pix of your Loki. |
Great news, did they say why little Loki was limping? |
she didn't know why. they gave him more rimadyl and said use if needed. I'm keeping a eye on him. of course i am his mama bear. this has been such a great site..... |
Oh such great news! I can imagine how relieved you are. Big difference from his spine is fused to nothing is wrong. Just a note: many of the folks here at YT feel that board certified vet are preferred for repairs etc that might need to be performed. Keeps us posted - looking forward to those pics! |
Oops Sorry - you did not sat that about his spine! So glad all is well. He is still limping? |
Just read your post - so glad to hear your puppy is ok!!!! |
I just uploaded a pic of loki. Not sure how to use as my picture.. Updated: his still limping. His on two kinds of pain meds. The xrays looks great. Blood work (which was done on Sunday) came back 100% perfect. What is causing his limping.. We have a f/w apt on Sunday(coming up) and at that time I am going to a specialist. Can it be growing pains? |
awww, so sorry your week has been so stressful. Waiting to hear from the vet is always so hard. Our news this week was not so great, pup is 2 months older than yours and broke her leg. We do not have health insurance so all around not a great week. It's amazing how these little ones take over our lives, it's nice we have a place to talk. My first Yorkie had a similar situation to yours when she was a pup. She must have jumped down from something and jarred something soft tissue that won't show on the xray. I would just encourage your puppy to take it easy for a week and see if it improves. Best wishes to you and your pup! |
I am so sorry that your baby has a broken leg.. I am soooo sorry. :( insurance or not I would spend whatever on him to get it fixed(which I am sure you are) but its funny how money is not a factor once they need you. With that said, I wish you the best, and hope you find a vet that is willing to assist you guys. I decided to get Petplan for him about 10 months ago. Along with Pet plan insurance he has banfield wellness insurance. That paid for my x-ray, lab work and no charge for doc's visits. I did have to pay for both of his meds. Also, when I go to the specialist that will cost me, as they are not with banfield. I wish you the best of luck as well. Sounds like your baby is in great hand!!!! |

Okay let us recap and recoup for a bit;) your dog started limping 4 days maybe 5 days ago. He has basically been on crate rest and pain killers (hopefully an anti inflammatory). Your vet did Xrays. Now has your vet had the Xrays seen by an orthopaedic surgeon? In other words consulted with a specialist on the Xrays? If not find out why - and hopefully the right views were taken and for ease of transfer to the specialist they are in digital form(that is just irritating not so important) as your vet can courier the old fashioned Xrays over to the specialist. Okay starting from the paw, has your vet ruled out - pawpad or nail injury - metatarsal and or ankle joint problems, then the big one for Yorkies - the knees - Luxating Patella for a starter, okay and now we are up to the hip. Here we have the Xrays - did the vet do palpation of the hip joint - extend the hip - and flex the hip and move the joint all around? Now before we go on - it is quite possible that 7-10 days of crate rest with the anti inflammatories could do the trick --- I would ask for a referral to the specialist - get the name etc, but wait a few days more. I would if the vet has not had those Xrays reviewed by a specialist have the review done. Lets see what your vet says on the recall appointment. Lets hold out hope that it is a simple muscle strain. |
