Hi Gemy,

These are great feed backs. I am actually going to print this off, and take this to my vet to ensure I am asking the right questions.

I know for a fact she hasn't shared this x-rays with a specialist, as she wants to see Loki on Sunday before sending me there. At that time, I was going to get his file, and then x-ray on disk.

She said by viewing the 3 photos, its her professional opinion that its not his knee, or hips. However she then turned around and felt him and indicated "now i feel his right knee pop, and has never done that before"- please keep in mind his back left feet is what his favoring.

I know she checked all of his pad, nail, and even his leg. At first she said the pain was on is hip, and now shes saying his right leg.. I am so confused. I think she is as confused with me. But shes did eliminate Lyme disease, and did take good shots of xray. She did give him two types of meds.. One vidcion for dogs, and then rimadyl.

Thanks for all of your great great questions. I am surely going to ask.

You guys are so awesome.

All great the xrays on disc must mean they are digital. Although she could forward to the specialist via email... but anyhoo that is just noise - not important .

I suspect you might be right in that she the vet is confused. But she is doing what is professionally right referring you onto a specialist.

I commend you for wanting to get to the bottom of this problem. I told you I left my comments at the hip joint. But there are other conditions originating from the spine that could create left limb limping/weakness etc.

But for now let us not go into that, and you go see that specialist and see what they say.

tsingh 01-06-2015 12:55 PM

Okay I am not going to focus on those, as I might have a heart attack. lol

I think this will be my last dog. I am so upset his in pain, and feel/wish I could do more. I just can't bare to see him in pain, and just feel hopeless. I love him like his my own flesh and blood..

This is to much- I mean it. Just to much. I worry about him going to sleep (which now he sleeps with us) and then jumping off the bed first thing in the morning to see if that flipping limping has gone away.

Oh dear how slow time goes, I came back here to check up on what your vet said, and Duh it isn't even Sunday yet. KNow I have been thinking about your both!

Breathe in, Breathe out;, relax. I know you worry a lot but you see they our dogs can sense our upset, so shake yourself out, and just love on your boy. You will get to the bottom of this, you are doing all the right things by your boy.

Just make sure he is not jumping off the bed unless your bed is on the floor:)

tsingh 01-08-2015 04:39 PM

You know Gemy he jumped off the couch yesterday and I got so upset. I said no-no bad boy- and realized he probably thinks I am crazy. After work today I am going to petsmart to buy him a stepping stool. Crazy how much money I spent and don't' even think twice!!!:)

Like shelbysmom states" next time I will buy a dog" hint*** they are NOT our dogs, but our children***

Update on loki: still limping. Still on meds. Waiting for my f/w withe doc this Sunday. Hes very active. Loves to eat- and just wants to play. Everything looks normal, beside his flipping limping.

shelbysmom 01-08-2015 04:59 PM

It's so hard to keep them from jumping but obviously Ali can't even think about it right now. I am keeping her attached to me on a short leash or in her expen or crate 24/7. Yes, even while sleeping and she sleeps next to me! I hope Loki will use the steps or a ramp or you may need to crate him. It's awful. Last night watching tv show where a doorbell rang, omg Ali almost jumped out of my lap but the leash stopped her. shaking my head.

Oh I know just how much money a loving Mom can spend on her dog! Just remember you will have to train him to go up and down the steps. Treats have always worked well for me!

I think that large or small or somewhere in-between, dogs to a true dog lover are quite like our children:)

You hang in there - try your darndest to limit jumping off high stuff, and go to your follow up and see that specialist.

Now what I believe is that you are strong enough, to do what you need to do for your dogs health and well-being. And your heart is aching so, I get that, but it seems it fuels your passion to do all that you can for your boy!

I am going to paraphrase something I read recently, when you love a dog and lose a dog, you give a piece of your heart away, when you love another dog you get a piece of your heart back - but it is a *doggey heart**. Not too sure if that makes sense to you or not. But over time I truly believe dog lovers, create a heart that is different to the run of the mill standard human heart.

There is little fault in loving deeply. There is much joy, and of course much pain to that. But you like I, would never stint on loving a dog very deeply and completely.

Keep in touch and I will try to look at my calendar better:)

tsingh 01-08-2015 05:09 PM

Every time I speak to you guys I always feel better :)---

I will stay strong, and behave better for sure. For Loki- as I am sure he feels my emotions.

With that said- shelbysmom- your baby is so cute. Does she have a pink cast?

Yes, they put a new pink cast with red heart on her today, made her feel pretty sassy.

Best wishes to you and Loki, I know how hard this is.

Okay it is Sunday now! Just checking back in, hope that your vet visit went well.

Let us know what he/she said...

Updated: his still limping. His on two kinds of pain meds. The xrays looks great. Blood work (which was done on Sunday) came back 100% perfect.

What is causing his limping.. We have a f/w apt on Sunday(coming up) and at that time I am going to a specialist.

Can it be growing pains?

This happened to my Jackson once, xrays were fine. He came up positive for Lymes disease, which can affect joints. Meds helped the limping go away within days. Good luck!

margaritaville 01-11-2015 11:52 AM

I hope everything went ok at the vet.

navillusc 01-11-2015 02:21 PM

Was checking gor updates.

The vet did check for soft tissue injuries, deep abscesses, etc...right? We inherited a 'walkup' adult male kitty years who turned out to have a huge deep abscess which did eventually rupture in the vet's hand during an exam. No one knew it was there. Changed kitty's personality completely. Just remembered it...:D

anakarydas 01-11-2015 06:33 PM

I m praying for your baby.....

tsingh 01-12-2015 09:50 AM

Update: Loki apt with Banfiled got canceled yesterday as his vet was in an emergency surgery. His apt is today with Dr. little is today at 5:45-

Update with Loki: he was doing better for the last couple of days, played some yesterday and back to LIMPING last night.

My goal: To have dr. little and her co partner look at him today. Walk out there with his x-ray and file, and have a referral on hand. We are done.

Other: I have been looking at ACL tears, starting to wonder if this is what Loki has???

tsingh 01-12-2015 09:54 AM

Checked Loki for Lyme- came back negative.

Lovetodream88 01-12-2015 10:41 AM

I think until you know what's wrong you really need to keep him from jumping or even walking around to much or more damage could be done to whatever the issue is. I have never been thrilled or trusting of Banifield I heard from my moms friend who is a receptionist at one some pretty interesting stuff. I have also heard of just bad care and neglect and lots of deaths at Banifield.

tsingh 01-12-2015 10:45 AM

I try my best for him not to jump. Bought some stairs, but his really quick. I would hate to leash tie him in the house.. I try to carry him upstairs. I don't want him on my bed right now, cause he will turn around and jump so fast. But then he yells and cries.

I am on banfield like there is no ones business. To be honest- they have been great with Loki- they got him in really quickly and also did x-rays right away. Prescribed him pain pills. Checked him for Lyme (when I requested) denied me no services thus far.

She wanted to wait a week just to see if he will heal, thus why she wanted me to come back in a week. I think that was reasonable, don't you? To wait a week?

Have you thought of putting him in a play pen?

matese 01-12-2015 10:50 AM

I have to agree to keep your pup from jumping on and off things and no HARD playing, meaning running. If you have a crate, crate him at night, no sleeping on your bed,if he jumps off at night you will never know. As hard as it may be, you must keep him as calm as possible for his safety. I know this is tearing you apart, we have all been there and know the pain you're in. Stay strong, keep pup calm until you know what you are dealing with.

tsingh 01-12-2015 10:52 AM

Yes, I have a plan pen. However he will just jump out of it. I am getting more stricter with him. Hard for me to do, as I have never stopped/denied him anything. He might think he did something wrong.

They have some on amazon with tops. It's about keeping him safe. If say it is an ACL tear and it needs to be repaired he will have to stay in one for 8 weeks so in my opinion it's better to keep him from making things worse and it can start to get him use to it.

gemy 01-12-2015 11:05 AM

Thanks for the update and good luck this afternoon.

ACL it could be, but it is usually easily identified through palpation and the vet does something called an anterior drawer test as well as a posterior one.

I do agree with all the others - playpen try covering it with a blanket and see if that will stop him jumping out. Also it is a good idea to get your dog used to either a crate (for car travel) and or a playpen.

The other thing you could think about is a front carry harness for your pup.

And I am afaird he does need to be leashed when on walks as you do not want him running and playing on this leg.

tsingh 01-12-2015 11:11 AM

Yes- I fear his doc didn't check him for that.. urgh. I have been research on my OWN.

I will be taking some time off of work to better deal with this issue. I need to get this matter handled with.

Thanks guys, I will know more after 5 today, and will surely update tomorrow.

Yup, I feel your pain. Ali has a very tall expen, she can't jump out but she tries and I feel like even the "trying" could hurt her? We hold her on a very short leash if she is in our lap or we put her in the crate. She HATES the crate but she is getting more used to it. I put her in it when I am cooking or eating and I set her at a level where she can watch. I know she feels punished too.

This is a lot of work!

gemy 01-12-2015 11:27 AM

Oh to expand on my blanket idea - if you have clothespegs try tieing down the blanket to the sides of the pen - if that is possible.

Sometimes lymes test can be negative but they can actually have lymes. It's really confusing, but they're not 100%, I recall my vet telling me that. So even if Jackson had come up negative for lymes, it still could've been that. The round of doxycycline was what helped him. My moms old dog used to limp sporadically and she tested pos for lymes twice and then negative a few other times but she always had it, and my parents weren't very proactive so they just never did anything about it. I'm sorry, it's got to be frustrating not being able to pinpoint the problem. :(

joyce evans 01-12-2015 08:17 PM

just checking in to see how Loki is doing a what the vet said and I see that you haven't really gotten an answer yet. Hopefully you will know something soon. I totally agree that Loki should be confined. No running or jumping. Sometimes a mom just has to do what she has to do. You might feel bad about it now but if it keeps him from further injury then it'll all be worth it. There are really nice, tall, escape free X-Pens on the net for decent prices. Any time any of my dogs learn how to escape then it's time for something different! Thanks for keeping us in the loop and best wishes to Loki for a speedy recovery!

tsingh 01-13-2015 09:27 AM

Update on loki: I am now being refereed to Cascade Veterinary referral center. They got a pretty good rating so I am hopeful they can help us. Banfiled docs were not able to help us..

whats interesting is this : Loki favors his back left foot, yet the pain (which the doctor indicates) is on his right side- I noticed when she touches his limping leg- he allows her to pull, and touch, but when he touches his right side they are not able to.

This is way confusing.. Any suggestions? Loki has a 8:30am apt this Thursday, and I pray we can find out.
