I am so sorry. Poor little guy. You are going to have to keep him in a play pen or crate while recovering so you need to prepare him and you for that and make sure you have the supply's. I know for a fact with the knee surgery part that jumping will damage what was done in surgery. |
Thank you so much.. yes, I do feel better (even though I feel like I have been kicked in my stomach a thousands time) but at least no more wondering (even though all hope for fast recovery is gone). Its a catch 22... but here I am in the end. I can surely take that hug from you. And if you can give me that info via message that would be great. I am extremely overwhelmed with your supports and the pain I have is unbearable. It hurts to look at him, but he docs said "boy that is one spoiled boy" hehe.. can't help it. |

It is unusual for such a young dog to be having such problems with HD so I am assuming that the hip joint is badly deformed. Are you having both hips done at once or are they do be done one at a time? I went to a specialist with a friend of mine who had a Shih Tzu. At age 8 it started having problems with HD. The specialist said it was a very routine surgery for an a vet that specializes in orthopedic medicine. Do I understand correctly that they are going to do the knee at the same time as the hip? Did they explain to you just how bad the knee is?That would be quite major to have both done at the same time. Make sure you get a good idea of what is going to take place during recovery and how much time you are going to need to spend with him. |
I am sorry took a while to answer as I have been so busy with Loki-work and running around. lol Yes my baby is having the right side of the hip and knee done. He does have bilateral so they want to do one side at a time. His Hip is a sever issue, and I didn't think his knee were cause he flagged it as a 2/4???- however last night his knee popped and took a while for it to pop back in place, so I am thinking yes, lets go ahead and move forward with this. Recovery should be very well. His on rimadyl and tramadol as well. He is also getting glucosamine (bought this from traders joe). I massage his hips, and I have a heating mattress- and I put him on there to relive any type of pains. If anything he seems to be annoyed with me, as I DON"T let him do much. He takes walks as we are trying to build muscle. But after that its lock down time. I hand feed him, so he kinds of rolls his eyes (no seriously) my husband like- I think he wants to punch you.. Guess- his trying to say "mom back off, I got this"--- I gotta let go, it hard because until his surgery happens (1.30.2015) I am trying to make him comfortable. |
